I'm not going to spend too much time on this game, but basically, Southgate brought back Jermaine Defoe from the wilderness into the national side. The boy in front of Defoe is Bradley Lowrey, a five-year-old with terminal cancer. Defoe is his favourite player and they seem to have a bond. The game was so-so. Lithuania came to gum up the works, I wasn't mad. Lallana did well
What was encouraging about this England side was that Southgate actually picked players based on form, not team. So to see players from Sunderland, Burnley, Middlesborough on the NT was nice
Defoe seemed to be a popular guy on the team. Southgate said some interesting things (telling England to get off the island in the week that Theresa May triggers Brexit is especially ironic. But eh)
