Highlights From Yesterday
Jamaica vs Venezuela
Venezuela slotted in the only goal of the match early in the game. Didn't get a chance to watch, instead had my butt kicked on a hike in the Angeles National Forest.
Mexico vs Uruguay
Best match of the tournament so far? A lively, spirited, and quite crazy affair. And an overall bad day for Uruguay. Suarez was sidelined 'cos he's still nursing a hamstring problem (at least that's what Barcelona wants us to believe). The event organizers made a huge blunder pre-kickoff, playing Chile's national anthem instead of Uruguay's. Team Uruguay played it cool while the wrong national anthem played, but some Uruguay supporters became livid and tried to disrupt the Mexico supporters from showcasing a tifo. Before the match had even ended, Copa América promptly issued a written statement, apologizing for the gaffe.
The bad luck for Uruguay kept piling. Mexico went up early thanks to an own goal. Uruguay lost a man to a red card right before the second half. To be fair, Mexico was impressive. Save for a twenty minute spell where they allowed a 10-man Uruguay to equalize in the second half, Mexico looked like the best-coached team at the Copa. Old man Marquez put Mexico in front again after Godin's equalizer, and Herrera put the match away with a header in stoppage time. The match ended 3-1 in Mexico's favor. Both teams were playing with only 10 men by FT.
