Bayern Munich vs Roma
Neuer in training. There's a campaign wanting him to be recognised as the evolution of goal keeping. Or something
Roma will be keen to avoid another thrashing by Bayern Munich when they make the trip to the Allianz Arena in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Italians were hammered 7-1 at the Stadio Olimpico two weeks ago as the Germans assumed firm control of Group E.
However, Roma remained in second place in the standings thanks to rivals Manchester City's 2-2 draw at CSKA Moscow last time out.
Meanwhile, Bayern can confirm themselves as group winners if they pick up a fourth consecutive victory in la competición this season.
The Germans are currently in rampant form, with an unbeaten start to the season putting them at la parte superior de the Bundesliga standings after 10 matches. more here
Roma said that its 0-7 thrashing by Bayern was an accident
Rudi Garcia, Roma coach
Tomorrow we do not have much of a chance of achieving a good result. But the result is not everything. The performance is important too. What happened in Rome was an accident. We have not been playing too badly in Serie A. We have to remember how we played at the beginning of the season. That is what we have to do again.
In recent weeks I have only seen a Roma side trying their very best. There are still some players injured, but for the next few weeks I can't do anything about this. I have to work with the players I have.
No one has won or even drawn against Bayern in the Champions League this season. But as I said before, the result is not everything. I want to see my team playing very aggressively.more here
Maribor vs Chelsea
Chelsea will be looking to extend not just their unbeaten run in the league but in all competitions when they face NK Maribor on Wednesday night.
Just under two weeks ago the Blues swept aside a very poor Maribor, beating them 6-0. With statistically the best attack in the Premier League it looks as though there will be no easing up.
Especially given that if Jose Mourinho’s side win on Wednesday, they’ll need just a point to qualify in the worst possible scenario.
This game could see Diego Costa rested as he makes a slow return to first team action and the reinstatement of Didier Drogba up front who before the game against QPR had scored three in three starts.
Maribor come into the game in poor form, with just two wins from their last five outings, losing the rest.read more here
Manchester City vs CSKA Moscow
Training for the big day. Shout out to Manchester City for their ticket prices though
Both of these teams had big fixtures at the weekend, with opposite outcomes. Manchester City came out winners in Sunday’s derby battle, while CSKA Moscow lost 1-0 at home to league leaders, Zenit St Petersburg.
Man City come out of their clash with a slightly renewed sense of belief. Despite it not being entirely convincing, it was an important win for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, after successive defeats to West Ham and Newcastle.
The Sky Blues are more than familiar with their opponent, having faced them in the Champions League group stage last season. There will also be a gnawing fear of the result two weeks ago. Seemingly comfortable at 2-0, Man City let it slip with CSKA taking full advantage and a point along with it.more here
Ajax vs Barcelona
Frank de Boer, Ajax coach
Barca will qualify for the last 16 if they bring three points home and APOEL fail to beat Group F leaders Paris St Germain, while Ajax need at least one point to retain any real hope of qualifying, a fact that coach Frank de Boer knows only too well.
Ajax head into the match on the back of two comfortable league victories and De Boer knows their opponents deserve respect but urged his side not to fear Barcelona.
He told De Telegraaf: "We need to disturb as a team. We have to give them no air to breathe.
"Two weeks ago we really had too much fear of Barcelona. Respect is allowed, but fear - of course - is not. I would therefore also like to see passion and confidence.
"Of course they have a lot of quality, but against good teams you get space. We should use that space well. Then there are opportunities."with Enrique still trying to fit Suarez in the attack, Ajax have a chance, tbh
Athletic vs FC Porto
I have a soft spot in my heart for Basque teams
Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde believes the pressure to win will prove to be a positive as his side look to keep alive their Champions League campaign with victory over Porto on Wednesday.
The Basque outfit have picked up only one point from their first three Group H matches and Valverde acknowledges that a third defeat on Wednesday would be unthinkable.
The 50-year-old does, however, feel their predicament could count in their favour.
"We have to play with the greatest desire, but see that not as a handicap but a positive," he was quoted as saying at his pre-match press conference.
"When you have a points advantage you can try to calculate things, but (our situation) simplifies everything down and means we do not look at anything else - our only choice is to win all three games.read more here
Sporting CP vs Schalke 04
Roman Neustädter looking more like a boy band singer than a footballer. Ain't no lie, baby bye, bye, bye.
Schalke 04 can take a big step towards the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday when they travel to Group G rivals Sporting Lisbon.
The Germans head into the match in second place in the table, two points behind leaders Chelsea and three points above third-placed Maribor.
Schalke claimed their first win of the campaign last time out as a late penalty saw them earn an incredible 4-3 triumph over Sporting at the Veltins-Arena.
New manager Roberto Di Matteo has enjoyed a solid start since taking over the German side last month, winning three of his first four games at the helm, and another victory in midweek would be sure to bring further optimism to the club.
Kevin Prince Boateng. The less successful of the Boateng brothers
Sporting make the trip to the Veltins-Arena at the bottom of Group G after taking just one point from their first three matches of this season's tournament.
Following their dramatic loss to Schalke two weeks ago, the Portuguese outfit's hopes of progressing are now hanging by a thread, though they will be hopeful of achieving a positive result in front of their own fans.
Julian Draxler, Jefferson Farfan, Fabian Giefer and Sead Kolasinac are all missing for the visitors, while Kevin-Prince Boateng and Joel Matip are doubtful. Sporting have no fresh injury concerns, but they will be without the suspended Mauricio.read more here
Paris SG vs
I know Davis Luiz and Ezequiel Lavezzi, don't know the other two
PSG can book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday with a victory at home to APOEL.
The French champions, who sit at the top of Group F with seven points, will go through if they win and second-placed Barcelona avoid defeat away to Ajax.
However, history suggests that PSG will not have it all their own way against the Cypriots after they scraped a 1-0 triumph in the reverse fixture two weeks ago.
APOEL come into the match with just one point from a possible nine, though they still have an outside chance of making it through to the next round of the competition.
The visitors, who reached the round of 16 two years ago, currently occupy top spot in their domestic table thanks to an unbeaten start to the new season.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Luiz remain injured for PSG, while John Arne Riise, Constantinos Charalambidis and Kaka are among the key absentees for the away side.more here on availability, injuries and the like
Shaktar vs BATE
Gossip about this lad. He's applying for a Ukrainian passport so he can represent them internationally, having given up on his dream to be selected for the Brazilian national team
When BATE head to Lviv to play Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, they'll be hoping to avoid being embarrassed like they were when they welcomed the Ukrainian champions to Belarus and were beaten 7-0 a few weeks ago. That result moved Shakhtar up above BATE and into second place in the group, and the Belarusian outfit need a win to jump back into a progression spot this week.
Unfortunately for BATE, it's hard to envisage them winning away against a vastly superior Shakhtar side. In Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano, the Ukrainians boast the Champions League's top scorer, and he'll no doubt be looking to feast on the messy BATE back line again in this match. When these sides met in Borisov late last month, Adriano scored a quite remarkable five goals.more here.
