Hope Solo arrested for investigation of two counts of domestic-violence assault
United States women’s national team and Seattle Reign FC goalkeeper Hope Solo was arrested early Saturday for investigation of two counts of domestic-violence assault, as first reported by the Seattle Times.
Solo, listed as Hope Amelia Stevens in the South Correctional Entity (Des Moines, Wash.) inmate registry, “was arrested overnight for allegedly striking her sister and her nephew at the Kirkland home she shares with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, according to police,” the Times reports. Police say Solo was “intoxicated and upset.” Solo’s nephew is 17 years old.
She was arraigned at 4:15 a.m. local time on Saturday.
Solo, 32, is being held without bail. She is due in Kirkland court on Monday.
U.S. Soccer released the following statement: “We are aware of the situation. At this point, we don’t have any further comments.”
Seattle Reign FC did not immediately respond to request for comment.
Solo played for the U.S. women last Saturday in Tampa, Fla., beating France 1-0 and tying Briana Scurry for the most all-time U.S. shutouts with 71. She did not travel to East Hartford, Conn., for the second match against France. U.S. Soccer said Solo had a “family commitment.” Ashlyn Harris started in net in the 2-2 draw with France.
According to Kirkland police Lt. Mike Murray, “There was a big party going on at her house. It was an out-of-control situation.” Murray said there were “visible injuries” to Solo’s sister and nephew.
Solo shares the Kirkland, Wash., home with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens. He was arrested in November 2012 for allegedly assaulting Solo the night before the two were wed.
