England's friendly with Holland called-off but third Test still on
England's football friendly with Holland at Wembley has been cancelled due to the escalating violence in London.
"It is with regret that tomorrow's [Wednesday 10 August] international fixture with Holland at Wembley has been called-off," the FA said in a statement released on Tuesday morning.
The escalation in violence had led to serious concerns about the Metropolitan police deploying a significant number of officers at Wembley during a time when they may be needed to keep order elsewhere. The Dutch team were due to fly out of Amsterdam at lunchtime on Tuesday.
West Ham United, Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace have already called off their Carling Cup home matches, which should have taken place on Tuesday evening, in order to aid the police.
However, West Midlands police have said there is "no reason" why the third Test between England and India, which is due to start at Edgbaston on Wednesday, will not go ahead following Monday night's riots in Birmingham.
