Yesterday, as Real Madrid faced off against Almeria, Cristiano Ronaldo netted two goals to bring his 10/11 league total up to 39 and 40, breaking the previous record of 38, held by Zarra (50/51) and Sanchez (89/90), to become the highest goal scorer ever in a single season of La Liga, earning him the Pichichi and European Golden Boot. He ends the season with a league-leading 53 goals in all competitions.
Following the match, he shares the glory with his fellow Blancos: "The only reason I have scored so many goals is because of my teammates, and I am exremely appreciative. The Pichichi is for them and the fans...I am generous with my teammates and they are generous with me. I wouldn't have scored 40 goals in La Liga without them."
In the final match of the season, the team scored 8 goals for an also league-topping 102 goals.
And shout out to Jerzy Dudek--you will be sorely missed!
