So proud rn.

Martin Kelly was today named the Standard Chartered LFC Player of the Month for February.

The 20-year-old tallied 37 per cent of your vote in an exclusive poll on this website to see off competition from Luis Suarez and last month's winner Raul Meireles.

It comes after Kelly continued to excel at right-back throughout February, making five appearances and further enhancing his reputation as one of England's brightest young talents before being ruled out for a month with a hamstring strain.

Upon being presented with the award at Melwood, the defender told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It's a great privilege. The month went well for me apart from the injury at West Ham. It's good to get the fans' vote and I'm made up to get the award.

"I've been pleased with the way I've been playing. The injury is a minor set-back but hopefully when I get back into training I can show what I can do and get my chance again."

The highlight of February for both Kelly and Liverpool fans was a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge which completed a double over our London rivals.

"Chelsea was possibly the highlight for me," said the Whiston-born youngster. "It was a great team performance and we deserved the win.

"Looking at the travelling fans after the game was fantastic. I know my dad was there and he really enjoyed it. The fans' backing is brilliant at Liverpool and we were made up with that win."

It is not just the fans who have recognised Kelly's form, with manager Kenny Dalglish offering words of praise in several press conferences.

"It's brilliant - a manager like Kenny saying things like that," added Kelly. "It's great to play under such a legend.

"It makes it a little easier knowing the manager has faith in what I'm doing but you've got to take your chance and show him that he should keep the faith in you."

Sadly for Kelly and Liverpool the month of February ended in the treatment room after he collapsed clutching his hamstring during the defeat at Upton Park.

He is now working hard on his recovery at Melwood and hopes to be back in action in time for our trip to West Brom on April 2.

"It was gutting to get injured but you can't dwell on it - you've got to put it behind you," he said. "We've got a great medical staff here and I've started running already. So it's looking good. I can't wait to be training and playing.

"It's on course. I think another three weeks will be the target to be back in training so I think the West Brom game will be the one I'm looking at.

"We've still got a lot to play for and we need to be winning as many games as possible in the Premier League and try to get a result against Braga and go far in that competition."

Every month you'll get the chance to vote for the Standard Chartered Player of the Month - and the winner will be presented with our brand new trophy courtesy of our main club sponsor.

Future captain of everything ever.
