Vicente del Bosque is again The World's best National Coach !
Since 1996 the IFFHS has carried out the vote for The World's best National Coach annually involving selected editorial offices and experts from 86 countries across all continents. The "Top 17" for the year 2010 are composed of 15 different nationalities, only Argentina and Germany are represented twice each. Eleven of the 17 coaches have charge of their national team, six coach a foreign team.
Vicente del Bosque, who led Spain to the victory in the 2010 World Cup, successfully defended his title to be The World's best National Coach, received 113 points more than 2009 and was voted into 1st place by 71 countries. And among the big "winners" is "Jogi" Löw, who catapulted from 14th place in 2009 to the 2nd place - and also achieved a high number of points. It is a fitting reward for the new attacking and technically fine play demonstrated by his German national team. The Dutchman Bert von Marwick and the, 63-year-old Uruguayan Óscar Tabárez, the coaches of the other semi-finalists of the World Cup 2010, complete the "Top 4"
Among the "winners" is the 56-year-old Serb Milovan Rajevac, who reached the final of the African Championship with Ghana and caused a sensation with his team at the World Cup in South Africa. Subsequently, he moved to Saudi Arabia and became club coach of Al-Ahly SC Jeddah. The Brazilian »Dunga« lost his jon as national coach following the unsatisfactory performance of his team at the World Cup, as did the 52-year-old Mexican Javier Aguirre, who moved to Real Zaragoza CD in the meantime. And the 54-year-old Japanese Takeshi Okada announced his resignation after the World Cup 2010.
Interestingly, the 49-year-old "Ricki" Herbert (New Zealand) coaches the national team as well as the Wellington Phoenix club. The 61-year-old Egyptian Hassan Shehata won the African Championship with the "Pharaons", while the 54-year-old Croat "Cico" Kranjčar guided the national team of Montenegro to some repeated surprise results. The both Argentinians in foreign, South American work are among the "Top8". That were the 48-year-old Gerardo Martino (with Paraguay) and Marcelo Bielsa, who but his further work as choach of Chile makes depend on, if the untrustworthy turbulences in the Chilean football association can be solved.
The Spaniard Vicente del Bosque will be honoured as The World's best National Coach with a golden trophy on the occasion of the World Football Gala 2011.
The Spaniard »Xavi« - The World‘s best Playmaker for the 3rd time !
The annual vote for The World‘s best Playmaker (by IFFHS) was conducted among selected editorial offices and experts from 85 countries across all continents. The "Top 18" comprise 15 Europeans and three South Americans. The 18 best playmakers for the year 2010 feature 11 different nationalities, with Spain represented four times, Germany three times and the Netherlands and England twice each.
The 30-year-old Spaniard Xavier Hernández Creus »Xavi« successfully defended his title and was voted as The World‘s best Playmaker for the third time in row. »Xavi« was placed in 1st or 2nd place by 55 countries and has never before achieved such a high number of points in this annual vote. His 26-year-old club and national team mate Andrés Iniesta came second, ahead of the, also 26-year-old, Dutchman Wesley Sneijder of "Inter" and the 23-year-old Argentinian Lionel Messi. Remarkably none of the players in the "Top 4" are taller than 1.70 metres while all are technically and highly skilled footballers.
The best-placed among the five players who featured for the first time in this annual world ranking of the playmakers, is the 22-year-old German Mesut Özil of Real Madrid CF, who is also the youngest in the "Top 10". Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are phenomenal dribbling artists and goalgetters, but also have the ability of a playmaker. Also, goalgetters Diego Forlán and the young Thomas Müller show the skills of a playmaker.
The poll has confirmed that those clubs (FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF, Arsenal FC London, FC Bayern München) and national teams (Spain, Germany), which are successful have the most playmakers in theirs teams, show the greatest technical skills and play attractive football.
The World‘s best Playmaker »Xavi« will be honoured with a golden trophy on occassion the World Football Gala 2011.
Iker Casillas The World‘s best Goalkeeper for the 3rd time!
The IFFHS has carried out the annual vote of The World's best Goalkeeper for the 24th time, using selected editorial offices and experts from 86 countries across all continents. The "Top 19" for the year 2010 are composed of 12 Europeans, three South Americans, two Africans and a North American and an Oceanian. Among these 19 top goalkeepers in the world are four Spaniards and two Dutchmen. Of these 19 goalkeepers six play in England, four in the Italian league and four in the Spanish league.
The 29-year-old Iker Casillas has succcessfully defended his title with some brillant performances, and was voted as The World's best Goalkeeper for the 3rd time in succession, and by a very large lead. The Spanish world champion was voted into first place by 65 countries. The 31-year-old Brazlian Julio César of "Inter" came second - his best place in this annual vote - and by a clear lead ahead of the other goalkeepers.
Seven goalkeepers appeared in this annual world ranking for the first time. These include the Dutch world champion runner-up Maarten Stekelenburg (5th) and the 24-year-old Manuel Neuer (4th). The German managed to break through in 2010 into the international elite. The third newcomer among the "Top 10" is Fernando Muslera, born in Argentina, but plays in Italy for SS Lazio Roma and for the Uruguayan national team.
The four times World‘s best Goalkeeper "Gigi" Buffon was absent for many months because of injuries and fell back in the world voting. For the first time two African goalkeepers are placed in this annual world ranking: the penalty scorer Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria), who plays in Israel, and the 32-year-old Richard Kingson from Ghana. Of the 19 world-best goalkeepers of 2010 11 are at a foreihn club and only eight play for a native club.
The World's best Goalkeeper 2010 will be honoured with a golden trophy in occasion of the World Footnball Gala 2011.
José Mourinho The World's best Club Coach for the 3rd time !!
Since 1996 the IFFHS has carried out annually the vote for The World's best Club Coach involving selected editorial offices and experts from 86 countries across all continents. The "Top 19" of the year 2010 are composed of 14 Europeans, two South American and two Asians as well as an African. Among these 19 coaches are three Frenchmen and two Spaniards, two Italians and two Englishmen. Of these 19 coaches (equivalent to manager in British) five coach in England, three in Spain, two in Germany and two coach French teams.
José Mourinho was voted The World's best Club Coach for the 3rd time after 2004 and 2005 and a lead of more than hundred points. The highly intelligent 47-year-old Portuguese once again confirmed his extraordinary abilities, and with "Inter" won the treble, and meanwhile has again put Real Madrid in with the prospect of success. 63 countries voted José Mourinho into 1st place!
The title-holder, 39-year-old "Pep" Guardiola, also had some remakable accomplishments with FC Barcelona in 2010. His "Barça" demontrated a way of playing and a football philosophy that captivated the fans. The Spaniard came 2nd with a lead of more than hundred points lead ahead of the nearest challenger.
New to the world ranking of the club coaches and finishing among the "Top 4" is Quique Sánchez Flores of the Club Atlético de Madrid. Consequently, three of the four world‘s best coaches for 2010 are with Spanish clubs, while the other, the Dutchman "Louis" van Gaal, won the German Double with FC Bayern München and reached the final of the UEFA Champions League.
Of the 19 coaches (managers) eight coach a team with of another nationality. These include Scotman "Alex" Ferguson (at "ManU" since 1986), the Frenchman Arsène Wenger (with the "Gunners" since 1996) and the Romanian Mircea Lucescu (at FC Shakhtar Donetsk since 2004).
José Mourinho will be honoured as The World's best Club Coach with a golden trophy on the occasion of the World Football Gala 2011.
Arsène Wenger is The World‘s best Coach of the 1st Decade !
A total of 176 coaches have featured in the ten annual votes for the each two world rankings - The World‘s best National Coach and the The World‘s best Club Coach. These 176 coaches come from 50 countries. The country with most coaches is Argentina (18), who have with Marcelo Bielsa and the not more active Carlos Bianchi among their best-placed coaches. Brazil with 16 follows, while the best European nations of coaches are: Spain (14) and France (14) ahead of Germany (13 and Silvia Neid), Italy (11) and the Netherlands (9). The following countries are represented with five and fewer coaches. It is notable that England is represented by only three coaches among the top 176 and the best-placed Englishman is Roy Hodgson on the 92nd place, while Italy has three coaches among the "Top 10".
The youngest coach among the "Top 10" is the 47-year-old Portuguese José Mourinho, who only begun work as a top coach in the year 2000 – but nevertheless has catapulted to 3rd place. He was highly successful in Portugal, England, and Italy, and now coaches Real Madrid CF. Only the votes in 2010 resulted in a decision that the overall winner is one of the two coaches, who have coached only one club throughout the decade. The 61-year-old Arsène Wenger (Arsenal FC London) successful defended his lead ahead of Sir "Alex" Ferguson (Manchester United FC) and is The World‘s best Coach of the 1st Decade (2001-2010). Although the Frenchman has until now never won the annual vote, he has been among the best-placed coaches every year. It is admirable, how he has repeatedly moulded young players into an attacking and technically brillant way of play. There is little doubt that the three first-placed coaches have had most influence on world football during the 1st Decade.
The World‘s best Coach of the 1st Decade of the 21st Century Arsène Wenger will be honoured on the occasion of the World Football Gala with a Certificate and a golden trophy.
"Gigi" Buffon is The World‘s best Goalkeeper of the 1st Decade !
The annual vote for The World‘s best Goalkeeper during the period 2001 to 2010 produced a total of total 76 goalkeepers from all football continents who featured at least once in the annual world ranking. These 76 goalkeepers are composed of 44 Europeans, 21 South Americans, five Central and North Americans, four Africans and one each from Asia and Oceana. Among the 76 goalkeepers of the 1st Decade of the 21st Century are seven Spaniards, six Brazilians, six Argentinians, five Germans, four Italians, four Frenchmen and four Russians as well as each three Dutchmen, Paraguayans, Colombians, Portugueses, Mexicans and Englishmen.
Already, before the 2010 vote, it is clear by virtue of the votes cast that the 28-year-old Czech Petr Čech of Chelsea FC London is the third-best goalkeeper of this decade. But the 2010 vote could result in the 40-year-old Dutchman Edwin van der Sar of Manchester United FC pushing the now retired and many times World s best Goalkeeper Oliver Kahn from 4th place. Nevertheless Germany as well as Spain and Brazil are represented with two goalkeepers each among the "Top 10". Only those goalkeepers who played for many years at the highest level made the top group of this world ranking of the 1st Decade.
The result of The World‘s best Goalkeeper of the 1st Decade (2001-2010) has been decided by the 2010 vote. The second-placed Spaniard Iker Casillas managed to reduce the lead of "Gigi" Buffon by more than half but the Italian of Juventus FC Torino, although troubled by injuries, managed to defend his position with a meagre lead and is therefore The World‘s best Goalkeeper of the 1st Decade of the 21st Century. Within of ten years world votings the four times World‘s best Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was better placed only for total five places than the three times World‘s best Goalkeeper Iker Casillas of Real Madrid CF.
The World‘s best Goalkeeper of the 1st Decade of the 21st Century "Gigi" Buffon will be honoured on the occasion of the World Football Gala with a Certificate and a golden trophy.
Spain finished the English dominance of the last years !
The world ranking for the strongest national leagues has been determined annually by the IFFHS since 1991 on the basis of all national (championship, FA Cup) and (inter)continental (confederations & FIFA club competitions) results of the clubs. This principle has proved to be a very sensitive and an objective indicator. In particular, the world ranking 2010 has produced the following:
1st
The English Premier League is no longer the No.1 in the world. The Spanish Primera División is now The strongest League in the World.
2nd
In comparision with 2009 - Italy and Germany have exchanged the places among the "Top 7". The Italian Serie A has above all benefited from the performances of FC Internazionale Milano, while in the German Bundesliga many teams were inconsistent over the 12 months. This was confirmed by the failure of BV Borussia Dortmund, the clear leader of the Bundesliga, in the national cup competition and in the Europe League. As a consequence the German Bundesliga fell back to 5th place.
3rd
The largest movements in performance globally – compared to 2009 - was recorded by the leagues of Portugal (8th), Ecuador (13th), Russia (14th), Peru (16th), Denmark (17th), Colombia (20th), Egypt (23rd), Iran (31st), Cyprus (35th) and Bolivia (44th), all of which secured about a hundred more points.
4th
The largest deterioration in performance globally – compared to 2009 - was recorded by the leagues of Romania and Nigeria, each amassed a hundred points fewer. And clear reductions in performance were registered by the leagues of Turkey, the Czech Republic and Austria. Consequently, the promotion of the promotion of the Austrian Bundesliga is on hold for now.
5th
The leagues of Morocco, Qatar and Kuwait improved markedly and just missed the "Top 50", while the leagues of Botswana, Malawi and India made the "Top 100" for the first time. And if the league of Azerbaijan is again placed in the "Top 90" in 2011, it will promoted in the third highest group of performance.
6th
While the league of the Republic of Korea in 2010 confirmed its growing strength and was promoted (from 1st January 2011) to the 2nd highest group of performance - as 2nd Asian league -, the league of Saudi Arabia missed this goal. Nevertheless the leagues from Saudi Arabia and Iran remain potential candidates for promotion.
7th
In Africa the leagues from Tunisia and Algeria have the best chance in future of being promoted to the 2nd highest group of performance.
8th
In the CONCACAF area the Major League Soccer (USA) improved further and has a clear lead of the following countries - and behind the Mexican Primera División which is clear the strongest league of this footballing continent.
9th
In South America the Primera División of Ecuador has improved considerably and is the third-strongest league of this footballing continent, behind the leagues of Brazil and Argentina but ahead of Peru.
10th
The World‘s best Top Division Goal Scorer 2011 (including the most effective) will be determined from the 60 top leagues for the year 2010.
The Spanish Primera División will be honoured as The strongest League in the World 2010 on occasion of the World Football Gala 2011.
"Inter" - First in the Club World Ranking 2010 !
FC do Porto - the World's Club Team of the Month for December 2010
By winning the Club World Championship FC Internazionale Milano also secured victory in the annual Club World Ranking, which was still uncertain before the team’s departure to the UAE for the World Club Championship. The 35 points from that victory gave "Inter" a clear lead as First in the Club World Ranking. And as a result of the deletion of a very large number of points from December 2009, „Barça“ lost 2nd place to FC Bayern Münich in the penultimate week of the year.
The good showing by the "Reds" from Liverpool is the result of the team remaining unbeaten in ten matches in the European League since July 2010, and Liverpool FC had won already five matches in this competition in the 1st half of the year. In the same half-year period "ManU" suffered an early elimination from the FA Cup, and similarly Chelsea FC from the UEFA Champions League. The Russian champions FC Zenit St. Petersburg (34th ---> 15th place), Beşiktaş SK İstanbul (48th ---> 25th) and Paris St.-Germain FC (44th ---> 27th) all showed impressive improvements..
The World Club Team of the Month for December is FC Porto, ahead of FC Schalke 04. In December both teams remained unbeaten in all matches and achieved the highest number of points worldwide (38). But since March the Portuguese are unbeaten in 33 competitive matches (30 wins, 3 draws) and have improved to 10th place in the Club World Ranking.
In the "Top 100" there are clubs from 38 countries: 66 clubs from the UEFA, 23 from the CONMEBOL, three from the CONCACAF, six from the CAF, three from the AFC but none from the OFC. The following leagues are represented by the most clubs in the "Top 100": Spain (7), England (7), Italy (7), Brazil (7), Germany (6), France (5), Netherland (5), Argentina (4), Portugal (4) and Ukraine (4). The "Top 10" for each of the four football continents - South America, Africa, Asia and CONCACAF - are as follows:
FC Internazionale Milano will be honoured as First of the Club World Ranking 2010 with a gold trophy on occasion of the World Football Gala 2011.
