Mourinho against Iniesta and Messi selections, thinks Ballon d’or should be based on performance during the season
Bettor.com reports that Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is not keen on Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi being included among the final three for the 2010 Ballon D’Or:
“The Golden Ball is to be recognized for a season, not the individual episode. How can you bring a player like Andres Iniesta into this when he was out injured for five months? It is true he scored the winning for Spain in the World Cup. Of the three players chosen, Xavi is ok because he had a great season but Messi and Iniesta, No,” said Mourinho.
We too would like to see FIFA change it’s criteria so that players are judged according to seasons. Isn’t that what a player cares about, prepares for? Doesn’t a player focus on trying to be the best so that his team can be as good as it can possibly be by the end of a league season or a cup competition?
We think FIFA needs to change this so that a clearer decision can be made about who is the best. We still love Iniesta and Messi but do think that Wesley Sneijder’s and even Wayne Rooney’s performances of last season were not given their due praise.

Barcelona star Xavi in amazing swipe at Real Madrid coach Mourinho
Barcelona midfielder Xavi has taken an amazing swipe at Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho. Xavi says Mourinho will not be remembered in the history of the game because he isn't an innovator.
"I'm sure Mourinho is a great coach, but he will not enter the history of football. To go down in history you must do different things and he does not bring new things to the game," said Xavi.
"This is one thing that Pep Guardiola has done, he has redesigned football, as did Arrigo Sacchi, (Sir Alex) Ferguson and (Johan) Cruyff, who also have contributed something new.
"Mourinho wins, because he was with Chelsea and Inter Milan, and I'm sure he is a great coach, but he does not bring anything new."
