Thierry Henry vs. David Beckham will have to wait.
A recurring knee injury will keep Henry out of Friday's anticipated clash against Beckham and the L.A. Galaxy, the Red Bulls announced Tuesday.
Henry, 33, sprained his MCL in a 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake on Sept. 4, and played the two ensuing games in pain. He attended practice Tuesday but worked out on the sideline. He will not travel with the team to California.
"He can run but when he opens up and tries to do something it's about handling the pain," said Red Bulls coach Hans Backe, whose team (12-8-5) can clinch a playoff spot with a win and a Toronto loss to San Jose. "So we'll just try to get our points to reach the playoffs and get him ready for the playoffs."
With Beckham and Henry on opposing sides - and with their respective teams owning the biggest payrolls in MLS by far - Red Bulls versus Galaxy is the league's marquee matchup. But the two stars may never be on the same field.
Beckham was inactive when the Galaxy came to Red Bull Arena on Aug. 14 because of a torn Achilles tendon. Since this week represents their final regular-season matchup - and since Beckham's future in the sport is tenuous - the MLS Cup final may be the only chance to watch both in a league game.
Beckham returned from his Achilles injury last week as a substitute against DC United, helping the Galaxy to a 2-1 win. He is expected to start against the Red Bulls, although Backe predicted the midfielder won't be "ready for 90 minutes and will probably play 60."
Coincidentally, Henry's MCL sprain is the same injury he inflicted upon Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman in a bizarre incident last week. Moments after the Red Bulls scored the tying goal in a 2-2 draw, Henry tried to kick the ball as a celebration. Hartman's foot was behind the ball and he immediately fell to the ground and grabbed his knee.
Henry was fined $2,000 by the league on Monday - a hefty sum by MLS standards - but was not suspended. The referee did not issue a yellow card to Henry for what the league later dubbed a "reckless" action.
It would have been Henry's second yellow card of the game, resulting in an automatic suspension for the Galaxy match.
I'll just leave this here until we get some of THIS next time XDDD ;D

Sell it like Beckham: Son Romeo, 8, inks deal to design sunglasses
Romeo Beckham has it made in the shade.
The eight-year-old middle son of Victoria and David Beckham has signed his first commercial deal to design sunglasses, the UK Mirror reports.
A source told the Mirror that the young Beckham has "strong opinions on what works and what doesn't, and has been badgering David and Victoria for months about designing his own sunglasses."
The sunglasses will reportedly be made for trendy kids under the label RB. His famous singer mother, who is also a designer, uses dVb on her own creations.
"Both Victoria and David are delighted," the source told the Mirror.
The barely tween Beckham is already quite popular among the adult set.
None other than Snoop Dogg has said he wants to work with young Romeo and his brothers, reports in the UK music blog Pop Gossip, earlier this month.
"With me, David and Victoria behind them they would be unstoppable. We're in talks for a Christmas recording," Snoop told the blog. "I'm waiting for Becks to get back in town. I can't see why their first single shouldn't be out by Christmas." LOL
