"Soccer star Rafa Márquez to lead Mexican Parade"
Mexican soccer star Rafael (Rafa) Márquez, who plays with the New York Red Bulls, will lead the annual Mexican Parade on Sunday.
"We wanted to give the kids and the teenagers who want so bad to see him up close the opportunity to do so," said Patricia Hernández, the founding president of the parade.
Mariachi bands, folk dancers and lucha libre fighters will perform at the 16th annual parade, which kicks off on Madison Ave. and 38th St. at 11 a.m. and makes its way south to 27th St. "We'll have a little bit of everything," she said.
Veteran actress Carmen Salinas, radio host El Pachá and singer Pedro Rivera, the father of vocalists Lupillo and Jenni, are among the honorees.
The band Grupo Maravilla de Robin Revilla, from the state of Puebla, Mexico, will be on the Daily News float.
The seven members of the group are known for their very danceable cumbia and duranguense tunes. They are popular in New York's Mexican nabes, where many people hail from Puebla.
