Lazio fans are enraged with the American film industry for modifying the original plot of a novel to turn a fan of their team into a Roma fan, as has happened in the recently released movie "Eat, Pray, Love", starring Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem.
In the movie, Roberts is a woman from NY who, after going through a tough divorce, moves to Italy, India and Indonesia on a personal trip in which she searches for a new meaning to her life. On the other hand, Bardem is a Brazilian living in Bali and, after also getting a divorce, finds love in Julia.
The script is based in an autobiography of the gastronomic and spiritual trip of American journalist Elizabeth Gilbert, that's sold over 6 million copies over the world.
In the novel, the young man from Rome that guides her through the city is an avid Lazio fan, and takes the author several times to the Olympic Stadium to see his team.
He admitted that when 'Liz' arrived to Rome and asked him to go with her to the set where the movie was being shot, he saw that everyone in it was wearing Rome shirts and kits, including the actor that plays his role, and that was "really upsetting" for him.
He claimed that he protested with vehemence to the producers, but all he got was that his character wore a Lazio scarf during a few seconds in the movie.
And if things could get more offensive towards Lazio fans, the movie shows images of their tifosi just as Roma scores a goal in the derby.
