Luis Suarez and Mounir El Hamdaoui scored Wednesday as Ajax beat Dynamo Kyiv 2-1 to advance to the group stage of the Champions League.Suarez converted Jan Vertonghen's free kick past goalkeeper Maxim Koval in the 42nd minute. El Hamdaoui added the second after connecting on a pass from substitute Miralem Sulejmani in the 75th as Ajax went through 3-2 after drawing 1-1 last week in Kyiv.
Ajax last reached the group stage of the Champion League in 2005.
"This is really important for the club," Suarez said. "It's been a long time since we made it to this stage. I am really happy. With this group, we can win everything."
Veteran striker Andriy Shevchenko scored a late penalty for Dynamo.
Dynamo was unlucky not to score when Roman Eremenko's close-range shot in the 15th was saved by Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
Dynamo midfielder Oleg Gusev's 28th-minute effort after exchanging passes with Artem Milevskiy was saved by Stekelenburg, who made another diving stop two minutes later from Andriy Yarmolenko's shot.
Vertongen and Suarez will miss Ajax's next match in the competition after both picked up bookings.
