Music + Footie = UNF

Spain could be firing themselves up for tomorrow's World Cup final to the sounds of our very own Kasabian, if striker Fernando Torres gets his way.

The 26-year-old Liverpool player is apparently a big fan of Tom, Serge and co, and reckons they're the best British band since The Beatles.

Torres says the Spanish team have been listening to Club Foot, one of Kasabian's earlier songs, before every international game for the past year.

So the 2004 hit could have played its part in Spain's wins over Portugal, Paraguay and Germany – but can it lead them to victory over the Dutch in the showpiece final tomorrow night?

Torres first revealed his love for the Countesthorpe and Blaby band after discovering Barcelona and Argentina rival Lionel Messi was a big Oasis fan.

He said: "I read that Messi had discovered Oasis and was listening to them before World Cup matches, so I texted him to say that, while Oasis were good, Kasabian were the best British band since The Beatles.

"He replied saying 'no chance'. So I texted back saying that I bet Kasabian take Spain further than Oasis do Argentina.

"I have already won that bet.

"But I'm now backing them to help Spain win the World Cup. When I came to Liverpool, I was very excited because I loved The Beatles and I knew that England was famous for having great bands.

"I didn't know much about Kasabian, but I found them very quickly and they have become my favourite band.

"For nearly a year now, we have been playing Club Foot in the dressing room before every Spanish international."

The game, Spain's first World Cup final, will be staged at the Soccer City stadium, in Johannesburg, at 7.30pm.

According to bookmakers Bet365, Spain are the favourites to win the World Cup, at odds of 8-15 compared with 6-4 for Holland. And despite his lack of form so far in South Africa, the odds on Torres scoring first goal are currently at 6-1.

This makes him the third favourite behind teammate David Villa – who has his eyes on the Golden Boot for the tournament's top scorer – and Dutch forward Robin van Persie.

Meanwhile, Kasabian, who are staunch Leicester City fans, will be headlining Scottish festival T in the Park on Sunday, so let's hope they will be able to catch the match before they take to the stage in front of thousands of fans.

First post here! I've been addicted to Kasabian's Underdog ever since it was the accompanying music to an Iker (man is fly as hell) or Spain NT video on YouTube, I can't remember. But I thought this was adorable! FERNANDO LIKES KASABIAN TOO. COULD HE GET ANY CUTER. Probably but for the sake of cardiac surgeons worldwide let's pretend he can't.
