Wolves dismiss manager McCarthy
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has left the club with immediate effect after a disappointing run of results.
Terry Connor will take charge of team training in the interim until a new manager is appointed.
Wolves suffered a 5-1 defeat at home to Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, a result which prompted McCarthy to apologise to fans for the display.
McCarthy joined Wolves in July 2006 and led the club to the Championship title in the 2008/09 campaign, and has kept Wolves in the Barclays Premier League for the past two seasons.
A statement on the club's official website said: "The board took the difficult decision to terminate Mick's contract after a run of form which has seen Wolves pick up only 14 points in the last 22 League games."
The statement added: "The board would like to place on record their sincere thanks and appreciation to Mick McCarthy and he leaves with the very best wishes of everyone connected to the club."
yes they've effectively SUCKED nigh onto since September but it just honestly feels like Mick is the scapegoat here. The players themselves just haven't had any spirit and I'm not sure that a coach is going to change that :/
and if we weren't going to drop before... it's guaranteed now
