Spurs v Everton postponed because of London Riots

The riots have claimed their first Premier League victim after Tottenham's match with Everton was scrapped.

After England's friendly with Holland on Wednesday was postponed - along with a string of Carling Cup games - the first top-flight match has now been called off.

Civil unrest in and around Tottenham began last weekend and quickly spread to other areas of the capital and other major cities across England.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore confirmed the game at White Hart Lane would not be played but was 'positive' that the other nine fixtures in the opening round of top-flight games would go ahead:

'The very latest situation is that Tottenham and Everton has gone. The police have done a fantastic job, but it's been a crime scene all week and the council have not had enough time to do what they need.

The other nine fixtures are looking positive, subject to any more trouble. At 6pm tonight we will have a very clear picture
. The Tottenham game is a real shame but we support the police in what they are doing. They want these games to go on as much as we do.'

Unsurprising but still disappointing that they have had to postpone one of the opening games because of a bunch of mindless thugs

Blackburn are awesomesauce

Blackburn will wear the Prince's Trust logo on their shirts for the forthcoming season instead of a sponsor's brand.

The partnership will see the club donate the space on their kit to the charity instead of selling it to a commercial venture. Blackburn's £5million sponsorship deal with Crown Paints expired at the end of last season and the team wore the logo of owners Venky's, the Indian poultry firm, on their kit for their recent matches in the Barclays Asia Trophy.

But the club say they decided to reject commercial sponsorship offers to link up with the charity. Simon Williams, Rovers' head of commercial and marketing, said the club had a history of running Prince's Trust programmes for disadvantaged young people in the area and was committed to fund-raising for the charity throughout the season.

"The club has enjoyed a strong and productive relationship with the Prince's Trust since 2005 and this agreement takes that relationship onto another level," he said. "The exposure the Prince's Trust will obtain as our shirt partner will greatly increase the level of awareness for the charity and hopefully encourage fund-raising for the fantastic work they do with young people."

Balaji Rao, managing director of Venky's India Ltd, said they were more than happy to support the charity. "We are absolutely delighted to be able to support the Prince's Trust in such a visible way, particularly at this challenging time for young people in terms of unemployment and limited opportunities," he said.

"Helping young people is very much at the forefront of our community work in India and this partnership is a perfect way for us to support charities and worthy causes through football over here."

It's always good to see clubs doing something good like promoting charities instead of commercial deals
Football - mö; shout it from the rooftop

Well, well, well.

Liverpool FC confirmed today that they had agreed a fee with Newcastle United for the transfer of Jose Enrique.
The club have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the player, who will travel to Liverpool to undergo a medical.

I miss you like crazy, every hour of every day

(Surprisingly, I didn't really suffer from loss of Saturday matches this year. The difference between the horrible episodes of football withdrawal that I experienced last year is that this year I went on holiday in June and July so it feels like the season just took a 2 week break rather than two months.)

Just over a day (two for my beloved Utd) until the new Premier League season kicks off. There's surely going to be some drama, thrills and goal keeping spills. It wouldn't be the Premier League if there wasn't a little bit of crazy every now and again.

Now, I know is as much loved around here as much as Marmite is in our house but bear with. They actually had a very funny piece about what they think is going to happen in the Premier League. I thought we could do with a bit of light hearted humour so here it is.

Warning, it's a bit of a read but honestly it's so worth it.
