The Europa League party isn't over yet at Porto

Venceremos, Venceremos, Venceremos outra vez... O Porto vai ganhar a taça, como em 2003! It isn't complete without a open top bus parade at the Avenida dos Aliados, Porto. So here's the continuation of their celebrations (and some quotes after the game) when they arrived at Porto. (I'm sorry if you're probably tired of all the Porto posts here but this doesn't happen every season so we're still living in the moment)

soccer: cron - team

Yesterday, as Real Madrid faced off against Almeria, Cristiano Ronaldo netted two goals to bring his 10/11 league total up to 39 and 40, breaking the previous record of 38, held by Zarra (50/51) and Sanchez (89/90), to become the highest goal scorer ever in a single season of La Liga, earning him the Pichichi and European Golden Boot. He ends the season with a league-leading 53 goals in all competitions.

Following the match, he shares the glory with his fellow Blancos: "The only reason I have scored so many goals is because of my teammates, and I am exremely appreciative. The Pichichi is for them and the fans...I am generous with my teammates and they are generous with me. I wouldn't have scored 40 goals in La Liga without them."

In the final match of the season, the team scored 8 goals for an also league-topping 102 goals.

And shout out to Jerzy Dudek--you will be sorely missed!

Ancelotti sacked by Chelsea

Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Carlo Ancelotti parted company with the club today (Sunday, 22 May).

The owner and board would like to thank Carlo for his contribution and achievements since taking over as manager in July 2009, which included winning the Double for the first time in the club's history.

However, this season's performances have fallen short of expectations and the club feels the time is right to make this change ahead of next season's preparations.

Carlo will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge, where he will be given the reception and respect his position in our history deserves.
Chelsea's long-term football objectives and ambitions remain unchanged and we will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager.

There will be no further comment until that appointment is made.
