Also, posting this article that I found over at The Guardian because it's a good 'un for conspiracy theorists, plus it answers lots of questions regarding the whole who-gets-a-Europa-slot-if-who-wins-what department. There are lots of a-win-would-hurt-them-in-the-long-run, which is really interesting.

We live in a post-modern world, so this is a post about nothing.

As you might know, the whole world seem to be taking part in a duck chase, and as Monty Pythony as that sounds, for at least a few of us it’s really not a lot of fun.

Finally something has happened, or, more accurately nothing happened. Neuer said nothing, Schalke bosses said nothing, Bayern bosses said nothing, even Howedes didn’t say anything – yet something has changed, and it seems like the fate of the best goali in the world (and he is whether you choose to acknowledge it or not) has been sealed.

STEVEN GERRARD IS A GAY

this has shown up a few places, but i thought that we'd all want to digest it here... brian reade's new book is coming out about the hicks-gillett period for liverpool (An Epic Swindle: 44 Months With A Pair Of Cowboys), and the mirror has been running excerpts for the last few days. the latest:

As George Gillett digested the words he was reading, the blood drained slowly from his face.

Surely there was a misprint in this report about Steven Gerrard marrying his long-term partner Alex which completely changed its meaning.

He read it again but it came out the same, so he phoned his co-owner: “Tom, there's something you need to know. Our team captain is gay.

Lukas Podolski marries Monika Puchalski

I can't seem to find an English source for this news, so through a combination of Google translate and a post from loewsmiserables, here's approximately what it said:

Lukas Podolski and Monika Puchalski have been dating for seven years and have a three year old son (born in 2008). Lukas proposed to Monika shortly before the 2010 World Cup, hinting that they will wed in 2011. On Monday 18th April, they were married in a civil ceremony. It is reported that they plan on holding a ceremony in Poland this Summer.

Sorry girls, sorry Schweini (you knew you had to let him go eventually)...

Benny Feilhaber to the Revs.

Benny Feilhaber claimed by New England Revolution in MLS allocation process
By Steven Goff
U.S. World Cup midfielder Benny Feilhaber was selected by the New England Revolution in the MLS allocation process Tuesday.

Feilhaber, who appeared in three World Cup matches last summer, signed with MLS after three seasons in Denmark with Aarhus.

Chivas USA was atop the allocation ranking, which is utilized when U.S. national team players sign with the league. However, the club passed in order to retain the first slot and manage its salary cap for future acquisitions.

“Having Benny would’ve been great in our midfield but his salary would’ve been so high that we wouldn’t have been able to make any adjustments going forward,” Chivas USA Coach Robin Fraser said. “The summer window coming up is an important time for us and we’d like to position ourselves to make some moves that we think are going to further improve our team.”

The Philadelphia Union was second in the allocation order but had indicated in advance that Feilhaber’s contract wouldn’t fit under its salary cap. At No. 3, the Revolution claimed Feilhaber. New England could still entertain trade offers.

The Vancouver Whitecaps (Jay DeMerit), Portland Timbers (Kenny Cooper) and D.C. United (Charlie Davies) exercised their picks before the season and moved to the back of the line.
