My husband David Tennant to star in a BBC movie about the Busby Babes

Tenth Doctor David Tennant is to star in a new BBC drama based on the true story of Manchester United's legendary "Busby Babes", the youngest side ever to win the Football League.

United is a BBC Two film which portrays events set around the 1958 Munich Air Crash that claimed eight of the team's number and the extraordinary spirit of a city that rebuilt the side in the wake of the disaster.

Tennant will play coach Jimmy Murphy, alongside Jack O'Connell (Skins, Dive) as Bobby Charlton, the youngest of the Babes, and Sam Claflin (Pirates Of The Caribbean, Any Human Heart) as star player Duncan Edwards. The film draws on first-hand interviews with the survivors and their families to tell the inspirational story of a team and community overcoming terrible tragedy.

The drama is written by Chris Chibnall, who wrote last year's two part Doctor Who story The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood as well as the 2007 story 42, and who has also written numerous episodes of Torchwood. It is directed by James Strong who has directed several episodes of Doctor Who and Torchwood.

Simon Heath, Executive Producer, World Productions, says:
Chris Chibnall has written an authentic and moving version of this heartbreaking story, which with the help of a great cast, we hope will be a fitting tribute to those who survived and those who lost their lives at Munich.

United starts filming later this month in and around the North East of England.

I know this isn't 100% sport related but I think it's an important story to tell and it's always good to see football related movies being made.

Hot like Mexico, Bury, and Manchester.

Fergie set to advise Javier Hernandez to ditch his pre-match Catholic prayer at Ibrox

JAVIER HERNANDEZ could be forced to abandon his pre-match Catholic prayer when Manchester United face Rangers in Glasgow on Wednesday week.

Deeply religious Hernandez – nicknamed Chico oic – kneels on the centre spot and prays before kick-off in every game he starts. But it is believed United boss Alex Ferguson – a former Rangers player – will advise the 22-year-old to ditch his ritual at Ibrox.

Rangers fans have already vowed on websites to target Hernandez if he goes through his normal routine and that will worry Ferguson who is anxious for United’s visit to pass peacefully.

Rangers officials say there is no question of them banning Hernandez from his usual pre-match routine, which he started in his native Mexico.

But he runs the risk of antagonising anti-Catholic Rangers supporters if he is included in boss Ferguson’s line-up when the teams meet at Ibrox.

Hernandez played against Rangers at Old Trafford but Ferguson realises the atmosphere is far more volatile in Glasgow, notorious for religious sectarianism.

Bonus: Gemma Atkinson has bloody good taste in football teams!

It's disgusting that he's being targeted for his faith. I am not Scottish myself so I will not pretend to have lived through the pain that people there have due to their religious differences, but to target another person for their faith is absolutely terrible imo. You may not agree with it but that doesn't mean you can stop other people from practicing it and no one has that right. I hope Chicha does what ever Sir Alex says is best and is just kept safe because I swear if anyone touches Chicha someone will have to hold my earrings while I go at em... praying for you Chicha

Huddlestone ruled out for three months

Tottenham Hotspur have been rocked by the news that key midfielder Tom Huddlestone has been ruled out for three months with an ankle injury.

Huddlestone has been nagged by the problem for some time, and has often needed painkilling injections ahead of matches. After carrying out a scan, Spurs have decided to send him for an operation on his deterioating right ankle.

The midfielder missed the weekend's 4-2 defeat of Blackburn Rovers and his lengthy absence will cause problems for Harry Redknapp as Spurs fight on in the Premier League and face two crucial Champions League matches in order to qualify for the knock-out round.

A lack of midfield numbers means Huddlestone's loss will be keenly felt, and his partnership with Luka Modric will now be broken up as the 23-year-old joins Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate on the sidelines.

A club statement read: "Following consultation with several independent ankle specialists, it has been determined that Tom Huddlestone will undergo surgery on his right ankle. The procedure is likely to rule the England international out of action for around three months."

Akkoord PSV en FC Barcelona over Afellay

PSV and FC Barcelona have reached agreement on the transfer of Ibrahim Afellay to the Spanish club in the winter. Afellay said he was pleased that his dream club like Barcelona want him to take over. The talks between him, agent Rob Jansen and FC Barcelona take place in a positive atmosphere, but are not yet finalized.

It is expected that this will take some time. Pending any personal agreement, Ibrahim wants to concentrate fully on the next important matches of PSV. When Ibrahim Afellay (24) leaves for FC Barcelona he is the seventh player to move from PSV Eindhoven to Barcelona.

Benz to Aston Villa?!?!?!

Houllier - who took over from Martin O'Neill at Villa earlier this season - was the Frenchman’s boss at Lyon and still maintains a relationship with the striker.

Benzema is finding his first-team opportunities limited at the Bernabeu, with several other world-class strikers on the books under Jose Mourinho.

And it is thought the Portuguese tactician may be prepared to allow Benzema to leave - although only on a temporary basis.

The player's agent Karim Djaziri is quoted as saying there is 'no chance' he will leave Real Madrid on a permanent deal - despite reports of interest from several European giants including AC Milan and Juventus.
But a short-term loan deal to allow Benzema to recapture his form after failing to adjust to life in Spain could still be a possibility.

'There are still some months to go before the January transfer window, but Karim wants to play for Madrid,' Djaziri added.

'He has been linked with Inter, Milan and Juventus but there is no chance he will leave Madrid. He has five years to run on his deal.'

i guess maybe if he goes to aston villa he can finally find a house with some furniture :( DON'T GO KAWEEM

Homophobia in Football Poll

Hey guys! I'm writing a paper in my Composition class on Homophobia in Football and I was wondering if everyone or anyone who reads this would be nice enough to answer the following questions. I'm just trying to collect some raw data from some of the people who love the game the most (besides the players, of course) and well, I figured this would be the perfect place to ask.

Poll #1644973 Homophobia in Football

If your favorite footballer came out of the closet, would you still support him/her the same way you do now?

When you attend games, do you hear homophobic slurs?

When you talk about football/the players with your friends, do you use homophobic words or phrases?

Do you use homophobic words/phrases casually and/or without thinking?

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to answer the questions, really, it means a lot to me and my grade! Lol.

I had to delete the last entry because I couldn't get the poll to work. Thanks for pointing out the error! And yes, I am asking in other places.

Pissed Off Iker Catches newspaper

SEE? that's why he's the best goalie in the world.

“The game was complicated for many reasons, such as the comments made before the match, the atmosphere at the stadium… We stepped up to the challenge and earned three vital points. I made a fast save; the ball wasn’t going towards one of the corners and it was basically my reflexes who reacted.”

“In all fairness, the atmosphere tonight was hostile. The home crowd supported its team 100%, which is normal. We responded well to that. Regarding what was said, I limit myself to defending my coach. I respect other opinions, but I do not share them. I stand by my coach, who is the best.” --iker
apparently, this is not the only hostile incident that occurred that day...
