Valencia Players play tour guides

Mata is a cute tour guide noe?

The local tourism council's promotional video means we get to watch Valencia players shuffling around the place,as they invite the world around for paella (no, honestly).

Juan Mata on a yacht talks about gourmet restaurants , Joaquin Sanchez checks out the birds and Jeremy Mathieu keeps an eye on the animals while Hedwiges Maduro tracks the Holy Grail and drools over oranges. Meanwhile Roberto Soldado enthuses about modern architecture

Okay, so, yesterday, I posted THIS entry, and the votes have been interesting and extremely close. SO close that a lot of the positions have ties and such, soooo I've decided to extend the vote until tonight since it's too close.

Write or post pictures of ONE PLAYER PER POSITION and I'll make a super post tomorrow with the overall TOP PLAYER OF EACH POSITION (goal, defense, midfield and forward). You may only vote for ONE player from YOUR TEAM.

And if you've already voted, please don't vote again. But comments and such are always welcome.

..Maybe Guardiola doesn't understand Norwegian humor?

Solbakken clashed violently with Guardiola after the match in Copenhagen.

Guardiola: - A coach should not say what Solbakken said.

OSLO / COPENHAGEN (Dagbladet): • FC Copenhagen - Barcelona 1-1

With an enthusiastic home crowd support, Ståle Solbakken managed a draw against Barcelona in Parken.

After the final game, FC Copenhagen players cheered as if they had won, while Ståle Solbakken and Pep Guardiola got off track in intense discussion.

It all started when they were being friendly with each other, but Solbakken seemed to get excited about the development of the conversation and was not calm when Sergio Busquets intervened.

After the match, it emerged that it was about a situation from the previous meeting between the teams. When the reserve goalkeeper Pinto was fooling Cesar Santin to believe he was offside on a golden transition opportunity.

Pinto received a two match quarantine for the whistling and Solbakken said Monday night with a smile that "he could have had two more."

The comment was Guardiola not happy with.

- He (Solbakken) believes that four to five matches would be more appropriate. It's a shame, a coach should not say something like that. Pinto is an important part of our team and has always stood for fair play, "said Guardiola.

- You can ask him about what happened. He likes to speak at the press conference, "said the Barca coach.

"Bad Norwegian joke"

Solbakken said that the statement about the Pinto was meant as a "bad Norwegian joke."

 - Maybe Guardiola does not understand Norwegian humor, and i take the blame for that. But I tried to explain to him what had been said around the Pinto case, but he did not understand.
- It was just a bad Norwegian joke.  I respect Guardiola, he is one of the best coaches out there. I wish him no harm, "said Solbakken at the press conference after the game.

- It looked like you said "shut up" to Guardiola - did you say that? Asked Dagbladet.

- No, I can't remember.  I don't know exactly what I said, too much happened at once.

LOL. I laughed at this. It's not about Norwegian humor, it's about sarcasm. Solbakken is well known for his heavy, ununderstanable sarcasm.

The "Face of the Revolution" Retires at 28. Breaks my heart while doing so.

New England Revolution forward Taylor Twellman today announced that he is ending his professional soccer career because of medical issues.

Twellman, born in Minneapolis, Minn., and raised in St. Louis, Mo., leaves the game after nine seasons in Major League Soccer, all with the New England Revolution. The 2005 MLS Most Valuable Player scored 101 career goals in 174 career appearances since joining MLS in 2002. He was also a two-time MLS Best XI performer (2002, 2005) and a five-time MLS All-Star.

Twellman has been limited to just two appearances in the last two seasons, and was unable to play at all in 2010 because of his ongoing medical concerns stemming from an on-field collision while scoring a goal in a game against the LA Galaxy on Aug. 30, 2008.
“Taylor Twellman has been the face of the Revolution since joining us in 2002,” Revolution Investor/Operator Robert K. Kraft said. “His heart, grit and determination have been a model for other players, and he’s played a tremendous role in establishing a new standard of success and consistency for not only our team, but also around the league. Taylor was a dynamic player who for nine years was the most prolific scorer in the MLS.

Here's an article that warms the cockles of my heart

Tottenham embrace spirit of unity after beating Internazionale

• I can achieve everything with Tottenham, says Modric
• Redknapp namechecks Cudicini, Gallas and Kaboul

When one star shines so brightly, it is easy to squint at the others. Tottenham Hotspur's Champions League triumph over Internazionale yesterday was illuminated by Gareth Bale's brilliance yet the underlying theme of an evening when White Hart Lane embraced hedonism and adventure was the unity of Harry Redknapp's squad.

A 5-month-old octopus with a familiar name made his public debut Wednesday.

Paul the Octopus tentatively explored his new tank at the Sea Life aquarium in Oberhausen after two months in quarantine. He replaces another Paul the Octopus, who became world famous for correctly predicting the outcome of World Cup soccer matches this summer.

The original Paul, who brought joy to millions throughout the World Cup with his accurate predictions of games, died of natural causes last week. The youngster comes from southern France and weighs nearly 10.5 ounces.

The young French-born octopus was transferred to the Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen some weeks ago so that Paul I could teach him predictive powers, but sadly the former great died before he could transfer his skills.

"We haven't tested him yet," said a spokeswoman for the Sea Life Centre. "The old Paul was supposed to teach him. But unfortunately he died before he could do that".

The centre will build a memorial to the mystic mollusk, which will include a screen showing the "best and most moving moments" of his life.

"This is not the normal way we deal with our sea creatures," the spokeswoman added. "But Paul was one of the most extraordinary animals we ever had. It seems appropriate to build a monument for him because he achieved such fame during his lifetime.''

It remains to be seen whether Paul II can live up to his name, but many predict that he will be tasked with forecasting the results of the Euro 2012 championships in two years' time.
