As you all probably know by now, Nestor Kirchner died yesterday. The former president was 60 years old. The matches of Primera División that would take place this weekend (and el Ascenso as well) have been suspended.
Many footballers have paid their respects through their websites and Twitters, and have sent their support to Cristina Fernandez, Kirchner's wife and current president of Argentina.

Leo Messi: "Lionel Messi and family, along with the Leo Messi Foundation wish to express their deep sorrow at the death of Dr. Nestor Kirchner, and accompany President Cristina Fernández and her entire family in their  pain with sincere affection and solidarity."

Kun Agüero: "I've just heard about the death of ex president Kirchner. Sad news. My condolences to president Cristina and her family".

Meanwhile, it was reported that Diego Maradona would be flying to El Calafate to pay his respects to the family. No news channel has confirmed this, though.

I'm not a kirchnerista, and I'm not a peronista either, but I am able to recognize the good things Kirchner has done for the country, along with his mistakes. Let's be respectful, please.  ¡Fuerza Cristina!
Sources: Olé, Clarín, my tv, etc.

ETA: Maradona has just gotten there. He's standing next to Cristina.
And there are really good pics here, if anyone is interested.

Robinho hopes Kaka returns!! Yeah!!

Robinho was speaking to SKY Italia following his heroics on Monday night. He thinks he’s beginning to reach his terms in fitness and looks forward  to clashing with Juventus this weekend.

“Now I feel better physically and I’m happy for myself and the team. I want to give my best here at Milan and I want to do well with Brazil.”

“The game with Juventus is very important and very difficult, but we are working to do well. Our mentality is to win everything.”

Robinho who is currently the Premier League’s most expensive import is enjoying his new life in Italy and hopes to have a prolonged stay in Serie A. He went onto say that that the Rossoneri’s attack is the strongest in the league and echoes his hope for Thiago Silva to make a swift return.

“Our attack is the strongest, I like to play in Italy and I hope to stay here for many years. Everybody, including myself, work to play 90 minutes, then the Coach decides. I’m not a playmaker, I’m used to playing in attack on the left, but I follow the instructions of my Coach.”
When Robinho was asked if he would return to San Siro simply for Kaka, he said

Kaka? I will wait for him with open arms

He doesn't really say much,,about Kaka but at least he cares
I ♥ how Robinho can be sensitive at times!!!

'How Italy lost Euro 2012 bid'

The former treasurer of the Cypriot FA Spyros Marangos has told La Gazzetta dello Sport that the voting for Euro 2012 was apparently rigged.

Italy's bid received just three votes at a UEFA assembly in Cardiff three years ago, while Poland and the Ukraine got seven.

Marangos alleges that four UEFA members' votes were bought for a total of €9.15m and insists that he has three witnesses and the proof to back up his claims.

Wesley Sneijder is staying @ Inter.

Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder has signed a new long-term contract with the club until June 2015.

Sneijder commits to Inter

Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder has signed a new long-term contract with the club until June 2015.

The former Real Madrid and Ajax man moved to the club last summer and played an integral part in firing Jose Mourinho's side to a superb treble which included winning Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League.

Now Rafa Benitez is the man at the helm and after a tricky start to the campaign, it had been suggested that Sneijder was considering his options.

But he has now committed to the cause at Inter as Benitez tries to repeat the remarkable achievements of last season.

Sneijder was recently named on the list of nominees for the Fifa Ballon d'Or award, and club president Moratti believes he has a fighting chance.

"Everyone is free to say that someone else must win, but it's so clear that it will be up to him," he said.

"He launched Inter to the treble win and Holland to the World Cup final."
