Xavi out of Spain's match against Lithuania on Friday

Vicente Del Bosque, Spain’s national trainer has said that he will not be using Xavi Henández in the Euro 2012 qualifier to be played tonight against Lithuania in Salamanca.

There have been reports in the Spanish press that Xavi is very close to suffering a serious injury, and while Del Bosque has commented that while there is no other Xavi, he will not be using the Barça player who already has 96 caps for Spain. His teammate Andrés Iniesta could be called in his place.

Xavi has enjoyed a tribute in his honour held in his home town of Terrassa. See video below..

Meanwhile there has been a row over language following a press conference for the side in Salamanca on Thursday. Another Barcelona player, Piqué, responded to a question in Catalan when asked to do so by a journalist, and this upset Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos, who asked if the answer would be translated in the Andalucian. Pique went on to repeat his answer in Castellano.

Manchester United reveal record losses of £83.6m

• Deficit is despite club making record turnover of £286.4m
• Figures likely to spark fresh anti-Glazer protests by United fans

Manchester United's operating profits set to top £100 million

Manchester United today posted record losses of £83.6m despite increased turnover, largely due to interest repayments and one-off financial charges relating to the bond issue that was the catalyst for fierce protests against the Glazers.

The bond issue, billed as a way to restructure United's long-term debt but which also made provision for the owners to take out up to £127m in the first year, resulted in a string of one-off costs that pushed the club to record losses.

The Manchester United chief executive, David Gill, will be able to argue that the club is still growing its revenues and competing at the top level despite calls for boycotts from some fans, as well as a record group-operating profit of £100.8m. But those same fans will point to the figures as proof that their ticket and TV subscription money is going on servicing debt rather than players or facilities.

The club's total debt stood at £521.7m at the end of the year to 30 June, according to the results. The Glazers also owe a further £225m in high-interest PIK loans, which are secured against their shareholding in United and now accrue at 16.25% per annum.

The results show that turnover has increased to a record £286.4m thanks to increased matchday, broadcasting and commercial income. The latter has risen by 16.5% to £81.4m, partly due to the effect of the deals signed with Aon and Nike being felt over a full year and partly as a result of the Glazers' aggressive strategy to grow overseas sponsorship revenues.

Media revenues also increased by 5.1% on the previous year as new broadcasting deals kicked in to £104.8m, but matchday revenues were down 7.9% to £100.2m.

The club said that could be attributed to fewer matches being played at home, and partly as a result of only reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League as opposed to the final the previous year.

But despite that record turnover – and a £12.7m income from player sales – the club's £40.21m interest bill, a £40.6m charge relating to an interest-rate swap agreement that had to be terminated in order to allow the bond issue to proceed and a £19.2m exchange rate hit all contributed to the £83.6m net loss.

there are no gays in football

Sport journalist Paolo Colombo and italian tv host Alessandro Cecchi Paone, both openly gay, have recently made shocking confessions.

According to openly gay journalist Paolo Colombo—who revealed all of this on the Italian show Chiambretti Night— there are gay players in the top teams, for example Juve has a gay player in the midfield/attack and AC Milan had a gay player who recently just transferred out.
He also said that he had a relationship with a foreign player who came to Italy in the late 90s, but then the player decided to get married and now has a traditional family.

In Colombo’s view, when it comes to homosexuality, the world of football simply does not like or want to talk about it.

Meanwhile, Alessandro Cecchi Paone on Mattino Cinque, during a discussion on homphobia and gay discrimination in Italy, confessed:

"I've had two beautiful love stories with two footballers, but sadly both relationships came to a bad end because they were forced to keep their sexuality secret. They were scared of how it could affect the dressing room and the media, and they also feared the supporters' reaction.
One of them plays for Serie A, and has a fake wife. The other one plays for Serie C1, and has a fake girfriend."

"The famous one is in his thirties, and he's terrified. He begged me not to mention his name. The other one is 25 and he's more serene about it. He's probably going to coming out in the next few weeks, and that would be a real turning point, because it would be the first time a footballer reveals his sexuality."

Cesare Prandelli, Italy's NT coach, commented: "We're waiting for any gay footballer to reveal it to the media. I was positively impressed with Tiziano Ferro's coming out ((Tiziano Ferro is a famous italian singer who recently admitted he's gay )), because there is nothing wrong with being homosexual. I think that those who decide to reveal it to the media are just trying to help the others. Homosexuality has always been a taboo in italian society."
