Kagawa exceeds Dortmund's expectations

"Money doesn't score goals" is a common platitude among German football fans and while cash can certainly contribute to victory, Shinji Kagawa is proof that a chequebook is not the only route to success.

I work at the hotel [V/d Valk Houten] and Liverpool came the day before the game against Utrecht.

I [luckily] was allowed to help clean up the food from the buffet that we made for Liverpool, that's when I saw Fernando for the first time. He turned his head to speak to Rodriguez.

Dirk Kuyt reallyyy wanted a dutch special food called 'frikandel speciaal', he talked to us and our chef, he was really funny ;p.

Later [around 12:00am], me and my friend were drinking wine after working  and our colleague told us that Fernando, Rodriguez and Lucas were still sitting @ the buffet, just sitting and chatting.

That was our chance.

We went to the buffet en walked over to them and asked a picture. Torres was the only one that stood up, then me & my friend told them: "No no, we want a picture with all of you!" Then they all stood up ;p.

Lucas said something about 'dutch girl' [becuz we are dutch, ofcourse] in spanish, which the guys laughed at, but I said "I understand Spanish! ;p" and Torres said "Okay, we'll be careful then" and he laughed.

Babel was walking @ the buffet earlier like he was the king, and he wasnt very nice when I tried to speak to him. because I tried to chat a bit with all of them while I was behind a counter making there pasta.

Pepe Reina was very patient and told me that I made the pasta good [which I didnt make, I was just allowed to put it on their plate, such a sweatheart. ;p]

They were all wearing the same outfits & there was heck of a lot of security :o.

What else is going on with the club? Funny you should ask.

Fabregas to miss Chelsea showdown

Arsenal have confirmed that captain Cesc Fabregas will play no part in their Premier League showdown with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger declared on Thursday that the Spaniard had a "50-50" chance of playing, but it has now been revealed that a hamstring injury will rule him out.

Fabregas' absence represents a serious blow to Arsenal - who will also be without goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and defender Kieran Gibbs - as they are desperate to get their season back on track following an embarrassing 3-2 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in their last league clash.

Wenger said: "Fabregas is not fit to play in this one and nor is Almunia. We lost Gibbs as well on Tuesday night with a calf problem and he is out of the England squad as well. He is out for two to three weeks.''

Thomas Vermaelen (Achilles), Nicklas Bendtner (groin), Aaron Ramsey (leg), Theo Walcott and Robin van Persie (both ankle) are still out, but Abou Diaby returns to the squad after an ankle problem.

Xavi with tendon trouble

According to the Medical Services “For several weeks, the player has been suffering bilateral aquiline tendinopathy, which has reached an acute stage. The player, the manager Pep Guardiola, the FC Barcelona Medical Services and national manager Vicente del Bosque have decided that the best decision would be for him not to play with the Spanish national team in the games against Lithuania and Scotland in order for him to remain in Barcelona and do recovery work.

Manchester United's Javier Hernandez in stand-off with angry farmer

Manchester United goal hero Javier Hernandez was involved in a stand-off with an angry farmer in a tractor at the club's training ground which nearly left him in a ditch.

Hernandez, known as Chicharito meaning Little Pea, was taking a short-cut to the Carrington complex near Manchester in his 4x4 when he met the tractor.

The 22-year-old Mexican, who scored the only goal in United's Champions League win over Valencia on Wednesday, was forced to give way eventually.

United's youth team director Brian McClair told the club magazine: "It's a single track road with ditches on either side.

"The farmer had right of way but Chicharito was not for reversing, until the tractor was about to drive over his car.

"He finally decided to retreat, nearly ending up in the ditch and then up a telegraph pole. The farmer was not amused."

Ryan Giggs: Nice guy finishes first

Simon Hattenstone
The Guardian, Saturday 2 October 2010

I'm waiting for Ryan Giggs when I notice a great white handlebar moustache strolling down the corridor. "Hello, Harry," I say. Harry Swales, Giggs's 84-year-old agent, is unmistakable. We chat for a good few seconds before I notice that Giggs is standing next to him; tanned, handsome, ski-slope cheeks, one of the most recognisable faces in world football – and somehow invisible. He looks like a little boy, polite and obedient, out for the day with his eccentric grandad.
