The Man with the Golden Ball

The English Premier League will most certainly celebrate its 10,000th goal (unless there will be a couple of nil-nil draws, but perhaps the 10,000th goal will be already scored in the first match of the day, the early kick-off Manchester City v Chelsea one). Already there were 9,995 goals scored, so the fifth goal will get the cheers - and the goalscorer the laurels. Most impressingly would be a hattrick right on the mark. We will see. Football has its own rules, you know.

As Nike all the years is the ball sponsor of the Premier League the guys celebrated the special event with a special ball: the Golden Ball. This ball will be used in all ten Premier League matches this weekend - perhaps most strikers and midfielders will go for a hattrick out of this case they can get the ball home after the game then.

So far there are three other landmarks for goals in the Premier League:
  • 1st goal: Mark Venus (Ipswich Town v Tottenham) (2000 / 1)
  • 1,000th goal: Fabrizio Ravanelli (Derby County v Blackburn Rovers) (2001 / 2)
  • 5,000th goal: Dennis Bergkamp (Middlesbrough v Arsenal) (2005 / 6)
Nike has produced 100 of the golden limited edition T90 Tracers and they will be available to buy from the moment the 10,000th goal is scored in this weekend's round of Premier League matches. The golden ball costs £100, available from Nike Town London and

Maradona breaks the silence

"I'd give my life to go back to the NT."

BUENOS AIRES -- In a press conference given last Friday, Diego Maradona said he'd "give his life to have another shot at being coach of Argentina" but that those things "aren't decided by a group or a comittee, only by one man called Julio Humberto Grondona".

· I remember Julio (Grondona) told us [after the elimination] that we'd had a good World Cup, that we were going to stay in charge and that we still had Copa América ahead.

· When I met with Grondona, he told me my group wasn't good enough for the National Team. But I had a World Champion like Héctor Enrique and a continental champion like (Alejandro) Mancuso. And Grondona told me about Mancuso, about my doctor, that he also had problems with the helper, who'd been there since 2006. (...) I'm surprised it took him 4 years to realize he had a problem with him.

· I know I've got chances of going back, but if I was told my group wasn't good enough, in the one that's there now, even if there're two world champions like Checho Batista and Tata Brown, there are others who have never played football.

In 'Why do they suck so much' news:

Sainte ended nearly two decades of derby woe by defeating les Gones and moving back to the top of the table, leaving their great rivals in the relegation zone.

What do you think? Should Puel stay or should he go? Who should take his place?

There are rumors that Juninho wants to coach but that's really not going to happen.
They also denied rumors for Marcello Lippi to take over.

JSYK Lyon is now standing at 19th place with 5 points, AKA second last, above AC Arles (who's got 0 point).
