some injury news and last call for fantasy champions league

Fulham's Bobby Zamora eyes January return after successful surgery

Bobby Zamora underwent surgery on his broken right ankle yesterday, an operation that went successfully and which could mean the Fulham forward is back in action by January. Four months had been the guess of Mark Hughes, the Fulham manager, but, despite the surgeon also finding ligament damage, Hughes will hope to have the England international, the club's leading goalscorer last season with 19, back for the second half of the campaign.

Boost for Tottenham as Luka Modric scan reveals leg is not broken

Harry Redknapp received some respite from his injury troubles today when it was revealed that Luka Modric had not broken his leg during Tottenham Hotspur's match at West Bromwich Albion yesterday.

The Croatian playmaker will now travel to Germany with his team-mates for Spurs' opening Champions League match against Werder Bremen, though it is doubtful he will play.

This is a Ryan Babel post, deal with it.

ALL things happen for a reason. Had the various pieces fallen into place on transfer deadline day, Ryan Babel could have been preparing for a game in the Midlands.

As it is, the enigmatic Dutch forward has spent the week preparing for a game in the Midlands and has done so with the knowledge the onus is on him to make the most of an unexpected opportunity.

Both West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur – who face West Brom at The Hawthorns this afternoon – expressed an interest in taking Babel from Anfield before the window shut and had Roy Hodgson been able to draft in a striker, he would have ended up at one of those clubs.

So close was Babel to leaving Liverpool that actually he boarded a plane at John Lennon Airport bound for the capital but, ultimately, he never reached the destinations that had been mooted; now he finds himself back in the thick of things with Hodgson.

Hey Roy, I think it'd be real swell if you let Torres get a bit of rest and start Babel every once in a while. But, since you clearly don't know what it means to sub players in, I think Babel is fucked :/ And also, can we get a Roy tag up in here?

So. You wanna be a WAG?

Read this article on News of the World and goodness gracious women these days!!!

The time is 11pm on a Saturday night, and outside a swanky London club favoured by footballers, a group of some of the most skilful and cold-blooded players in the country is currently gathering.

Admittedly, as Fabulous watches them queue in teetering stilettos and skimpy outfits, they don't exactly look like a force to be reckoned with. But you underestimate them at your peril. This is one team who'll do anything to achieve their goal.

These are the Wagabees - the wannabe WAGs who'll stop at nothing in their ruthless pursuit of the ultimate prize:

Manchester United take armband from Neville.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed Gary Neville will no longer wear the captain's armband at Manchester United.

The veteran defender replaced Roy Keane as skipper when the combative Irishman left Old Trafford in 2005.

However, for the last three seasons, Neville's career has been badly hampered by injury.

Under normal circumstances, Ryan Giggs would step into the breach but it has been noticeable this season that the honour has gone to Nemanja Vidic.

The Serbian defender did the job at Everton on Saturday even when Neville was in the team.

And, while the 35-year-old remains club captain, Ferguson felt it was important to have some continuity with who did the job on the pitch.

"Gary is still club captain but I have been looking for someone who is going to be playing consistently every week," said Ferguson.

Collapse )I agree with needing a player who plays regularly to wear the armband and neither Giggs or Neville start every match. I'm not 100% sure who should captain the team, Rio or Vidic, as they are both great leaders. Rio was told he'd captain United after Neville retired but his injuries complicate things. I'll be happy with either :)

Victoria Beckham Displays New 2011 Spring Collection.

"Erstwhile 'Spice Girl' Victoria Beckham is now a member of the big leagues of fashion design--from dressing celebs of every body type (including Jennifer Hudson, Eva Longoria Parker and Demi Moore) to showing at New York Fashion Week. While her Spring 2011 show included looser silhouettes than she's previously shown, we're betting the elegant dresses will still be a hit with her fans."

Evander Sno Taken To Hospital Having Suffered Heart Attack

Ex-Celtic and Bristol City midfidler Evander Sno suffered a heart attack tonight while playing for Ajax reserves against Vitesse Arnhem.

In the 63rd minute of the match, with the score at 2-2, the midfielder collapsed on the pitch. He was treated by the club’s medical staff and was revived on the pitch before being taken to hospital, where he is now described as being in a stable condition.

Sno is not the first player to collapse on the pitch in recent years.

In 2003 Cameroon’s Marc-Vivien Foe collapsed and died during a Confederations Cup match, four years later Sevilla’s Antonio Puerta also collapsed and died in the penalty area during his side’s opening league match against Getafe. And in 2009 Espanyol’s Daniel Jarque died of a heart attack during the team’s pre-season tour of Italy.

In 2008 Sunderland defender Clive Clarke collapsed at half time while playing for Leicester City against Nottingham Forest but was revived later in hospital.

Found out about this through Babel's twitter. Poor guy. I send my best wishes for him and hopes he gets better soon. ):
