Rooney stunner for England: Mystery of striker's dismal World Cup resolved as call girl tells of £1,200-a-night hotel trysts

Wayne Rooney's marriage was under intense pressure last night after it was revealed that he had a series of encounters with a prostitute while his wife was pregnant.

The Manchester United and England star, widely criticised during the World Cup for a series of lacklustre performances, broke the news to a 'devastated' Coleen yesterday afternoon.

Living a lie: Wayne and Coleen Rooney out in Manchester

They married two years ago, after six years of dating, becoming one of football's highest-profile couples. But last night there were fears that their union is unlikely to survive the new revelations.

Rooney, 24, reportedly slept with 21-year-old Jennifer Thompson, who charges £1,200 a night, seven times in four months. They had sex in one of Manchester's most exclusive hotels, and visited nightclubs and casinos together.

It is understood his lawyers tried to fight the allegations when they first surfaced three weeks ago, but ultimately decided they were indefensible because of previous revelations about the star and prostitutes.

Fabregas: I was forced to stay

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has hinted that if it was down to him, he would have secured a switch to Barcelona this summer.

The midfielder was strongly linked with a return to his Catalan roots throughout the transfer window, with both parties making it clear that they wished to reach an agreement.

However, the deadline for deals passed last week and Gunners skipper Fabregas remains on the books at Emirates Stadium.

The World Cup winner is not the type of player to mope around and go through the motions as he attempts to force through a move to Camp Nou.

He is, though, a proud Barcelona native and admits his continued presence in north London is only down to Arsenal's stubborn refusal to discuss a deal with their Spanish rivals.

Fabregas said: "Barcelona did all they could to sign me but Arsenal told me I had to stay, that there was no way they were going to let me go.

"In the end I had to stay - but the content of my conversation with Arsene Wenger will remain private."

While Fabregas is staying put for now, it does appear to be only a matter of time before Barca get their man.

They are confident a move can be put in place next summer and have already left their number four jersey open for his arrival.

Barca stars Xavi and Andres Iniesta, who have publicly called for a deal to be done throughout the summer, are also confident that their international colleague will soon be joining them back in his homeland.

Xavi said: "If the signing has not happened this year, it will happen next."

Andres Iniesta said: "When you talk with him (Fabregas), you realise how excited he was about the prospect (of joining Barca)."

Don't get me wrong I ♥ Barca, but they need to stop talking about how Cesc really needs to be there. I know they mean well and I'm guilty too for saying similar things, but when you keep these things publicly it only makes it harder on Cesc because he knows he really loved by the team. And also us fans keeps getting butthurt over this!!!

Loew plans with Ballack, if he is fit

Veteran captain Michael Ballack has a future in the Germany team, but only if he regains his fitness, coach Joachim Loew reiterated in an interview published on Sunday.

"I want to develop the team further - and I would like to do it with Michael," Loew told the Bild am Sonntag paper.

"It is planned this way. But he must reach his old form. I believe he can achieve that, he still has great potential. Of course physical fitness is very important at his age. But Michael is ambitious."

Ballack, who turns 34 on September 26, missed the recent World Cup over an ankle injury. The midfielder is back in action at his new club Bayer Leverkusen but yet to reach full fitness and was not invited by Loew for Germany's first two Euro 2012 qualifiers.

"Michael has not yet reached the shape in which he can help us," Loew said.
Loew said that Germany nowadays plays fast attacking one-touch football for which he needs fit players. In addition, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira played well in Ballack's role at the World Cup. Loew announced last week that the Ballack, who has scored 42 goals in 98 caps, will remain captain when he can play and that Philipp Lahm will be the skipper, like at the World Cup and the first two Euro qualifiers, when Ballack is not with the team. Ballack has remained silent over the issue and Loew did not want to say whether he could imagine a scenario in which the formerly undisputed team leader Ballack would be invited but not a starter.

"This has to be decided at the time. There are still four weeks until the next (Euro qualifier) double header. It was no issue when I met with Michael (last week)," Loew said.

Gigg's Blasts 'Overpaid' Youngsters

Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs believes Premier League youngsters will never get a chance of beating his records because they are pampered.

The 36-year-old has no plans to quit Old Trafford just yet and he hopes for continued success this season having already won everything in the club game.

The former Wales international has 23 winners' medals to his name during a glittering career under manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

But the midfielder believes that the young stars of today are showered with too much money before they are able to prove themselves.

Giggs told the Daily Star: "A lot of players now, before they've established themselves, get a lot of money, which I never got.

"I was on good money, don't get me wrong, but I was playing in the first team and I was on £30. I was on an apprenticeship wage.

"Then my next contract was like £200 with expenses and gradually contracts would get better the older you got. That was how I grew up.

"Now, before you're proven, you've got the money - a four or five-year contract - which is the way football's gone.

"Some players can handle it, some players don't. I've been at the club during its most successful era and been here a long time. It's going to be hard to beat.

"I'm not going to say it will never ever be done, but it will be tough."

Riise transported from practice in ambulance

Ullevål / OSLO (Dagbladet): John Arne Riise is missing the game against Portugal after having sustained a concussion at today's national team training.

It was after a head collision that Riise went into the ground.  Ambulance was called immediately.

- John Arne was in a duel, and got hit in the head. The medical team was quickly into place, and he was driven in an ambulance to take x-rays of the damage. But it is already established that he can not play tomorrow, "said press officer John Morland to Dagbladet.

It ended with Riise getting Ruud's shoulder to his jaw , went into the ground and suffered a heavy concussion. The Roma player is sidelined for tomorrow's match against Portugal, and will likely spend the night at the Ullevål hospital for observation.

It was dramatic when an unconscious Riise was lying in the grass with cramps. He was quickly taken care of by Andersen, who controlled that the airways were free and that the heart was beating normally until he was placed in the recovery position and an ambulance was requested. There was never any danger, in that he was breathing normally, but Riise was long out of consciousness.

- He was probably unconscious for three or four to five minutes, and it is relatively long, "says Andersen.

Regarding spasms or convulsions, is not an unusual reaction in severe head trauma. It is harmless, but it looks dramatic, "explains Andersen told Dagbladet.

Omg, noooooooooooo! Espen Ruud will take his place - also it was Ruud's shoulder that hit Riise in the head, jikes.
this is more than my road to redemption

of course, it just keeps on coming for us

Kuyt injured - forced to hospital

Holland has gotten problems in the European Championship qualifiers.
Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt, 30, has been forced to the hospital - with an injured shoulder.

Holland was a success in the World Cup and went all the way to the final, now riding on the wave of success.
In the first match in the European Championship qualifiers against San Marino, they won with a score of 5-0, after goals by Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dirk Kuyt, also with a hat trick from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

But before the match against Finland tomorrow, they have problems.
Striker Kuyt has injured the shoulder in training and could now be gone for a long time.
According to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, the 30-year-old has been forced to the hospital and is to be x-rayed - and the answer to exactly how serious the injury is going to come soon.

source (in swedish)

It was noted that the 30-year-old will be gone for "several weeks". He thus misses the match against Finland, a number of important matches for Liverpool - and perhaps also the European Championship qualifier against Sweden, which is played in five weeks. - Some ligaments are stretched, if not severed, "said coach Bert Van Marwijk to De Telegraaf. And he is worried. - All of our key players from the World Cup is gone, so now it's up to the other players ... Kuyt is said to be replaced by either Ibrahim Afellay or Jeremain Lens.

yeah, okay, so, fml for real then.
