Said & Done - David Hills

Anyone ever read The Guardian's column out weekly by David Hills? I thought people would enjoy reading the vast hypocrisy in football in today's piece.

Change we can believe in

February: Qatari Fifa executive Mohamed Bin Hammam says he'll block Sepp Blatter's bid for a fourth term in the 2011 elections: "The time has come. Fifa needs an Asian president."
May: Sepp publicly backs Qatar's 2022 World Cup bid. "I strongly feel the World Cup should come to Qatar!"
August: Bin Hammam says Sepp deserves a fourth term. "Let me be very clear. I will be backing Sepp Blatter to remain in office. He is my very good friend!"' (Sepp says claims of a deal are malicious. "I have most certainly not made any sort of deal with Qatar. How could I? As president of Fifa I would never misuse my office!")

One to watch

Next for Bin Hammam instead of a run at Fifa's top job: "My aim is to run for re-election as Asian Football Confederation president in 2011. I hope I will have the full confidence of all the national associations". Bin Hammam's previous best election – last year, winning a seat on the Fifa executive board, then refusing calls for an inquiry into alleged "gross corruption" during the campaign. "It's time to move on! Turn the page. The past is the past, it's better that way."

Reds complete Meireles deal

Liverpool have completed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles on a four-year contract.

The Reds have paid 14 million euros for the services of the 27-year-old midfielder, who has won four titles with Porto and been capped 38 times by Portugal, including in all four of his country's games in this summer's World Cup.

Liverpool maybe is not having the best of times, but we have the hottest club in deh world.

Fabio Capello names his squad to face Bulgaria and Switzerland.

Fabio Capello has named a 24-man squad for the opening double header of Euro 2012 qualifiers, which begins at Wembley on Friday with the visit of Bulgaria.

There are five forwards in the squad, fresh from reaching the Champions League group stages with Tottenham Hotspur Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe both return to the fold. Wayne Rooney scored his first goal of the season on Saturday and he is joined by Darren Bent who also notched from the penalty spot, and West Ham United's Carlton Cole.

Chelsea pair Frank Lampard and John Terry both miss out through injury, while Kieran Gibbs keeps his place in the squad after making his debut against Hungary last month.

How do you feel about this? Will Darren Bent start? Or will he score 50 goals this season for Sunderland and STILL sit on the bench?

Arsenal player Jack Wilshere arrested after 'fracas'

Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere was arrested in the early hours in connection with a "fracas".

A spokesman for the player said the footballer was held after the incident at 0245 BST in Kensington High Street, London, and later released on bail. Three other men were also arrested.

Emergency crews were called after a man suffered minor facial injuries and a woman sustained a broken arm.

Wilshere, 18, made his England debut in last month's friendly against Hungary.

But this week he was named in the England under-21 squad rather than remaining in contention for the senior side's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland.

i know what a fracas is now. it's okay y'all

Why don't they stop

"Being brutally honest they haven't brought any top-class players in to replace the ones they have sold," claimed Xavi. "They haven't tried to improve the squad. Nando deserves to be playing with the best players like he does with Spain. If Liverpool have another disappointing season that will be it for him. Our coach Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of Nando. If he wanted to leave next summer I would imagine Barcelona to be very much in the running."

Okay i know we are not great .. but what is with Barca players, i know they have a great team maybe the best in the world but hey why be so nosy
