"I believe Paul Scholes is still one of the greatest football players in England," said Wenger

'Scholes doesn't get the credit he deserves'

Arsène Wenger believes Paul Scholes remains one of the greatest footballers in England.

The veteran midfielder began yet another Premier League season with a stunning display at Newcastle on Monday night and, unsurprisingly, his continued fine form cropped up when the Arsenal manager spoke to the media on Friday.

Wenger believes the 35-year-old Manchester United star is still underrated by the wider football world and he would definitely have liked him at Emirates Stadium over the years.

"I believe Paul Scholes is still one of the greatest football players in England," said Wenger. "His contribution to the success of Manchester United is absolutely huge.

"He did not get completely [the credit] he deserves as a football player, because he is not a 'media lion', a player [that] runs after the media to be in the papers. And I respect that a lot.

"The regret I have personally is that he was not always the fairest player. But there is a little bit of a darker side in him and he sometimes did things which I did not like."

Benny Feilhaber Has Options, but No Offers, as Transfer Window Narrows

Despite a very good performance at the World Cup, U.S. national team midfielder Benny Feilhaber still is laboring with a club in the Danish second division. It's a difficult situation for a player who deserves better, and is emblematic of a lack of real interest from European clubs in American players, many of whom did well in South Africa.
