Manchester United news round up..Carrick out of opener..

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is to miss the start of the Premier League season because of an ankle injury, the club have confirmed.

Carrick picked up the problem during United's 7-1 defeat of an Airtricity League of Ireland side on Wednesday.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said the 29-year-old will be out for "a couple of weeks" as a result.

"Michael hurt his ankle. It is nothing serious but he will miss the start of the season," Ferguson added.

The injury means Carrick will be unavailable for Sunday's Community Shield contest with Chelsea and United's Premier League opener with Newcastle on 16 August.

Ferguson has confirmed Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen will get 45 minutes each against Chelsea but admitted a few senior players would miss the season's curtain-raiser because of injury.

"Gabriel Obertan still has the ankle injury he picked up in the United States. It will be a few weeks before Rio Ferdinand is back amongst us and Owen Hargreaves is still in the United States," said Ferguson.

"Anderson is making good progress from his knee injury and he could be back training in two or three weeks."

'Evra won't play for a while. He's averaged 55 games a season since he's been here'

Brazilian twins Rafael and Fabio da Silva are also doubtful after suffering a bout of food poisoning.

For the play-offs the 35 third qualifying round winners join the 15 losing sides from the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round and a further 24 teams who begin their European campaigns here.

The 74 clubs are divided into seven groups for the draw – five of ten teams and two of 12. Within the seven groups an equal number of sides will be seeded and unseeded in accordance with the club rankings established at the beginning of the season. Teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.

For each group, balls containing the seeded sides will be placed in one bowl and balls containing unseeded teams in another. A ball will be taken from each bowl and placed in a large empty bowl in the middle, where they will be shuffled. The first club drawn will play its first match at home against the second side drawn.

* The draw is made under the reservation of a possible appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Whole list is under the cut.

Arena remains butt hurt while the Islanders celebrate their victory

Arena criticizes conditions

The head coach of LA Galaxy, Bruce Arena, accepted the deletion of your club before the Puerto Rico Islanders in the Champions League CONCACAF, but not before he severely criticized football in the Caribbean.

LA Galaxy, the best club in Major League Soccer (MLS), defeated the Orange Troop, 2-1, last Wednesday, but it was the Islanders who won the elimination round with their win, 4-1, at the match in Los Angeles.

"(On Wednesday) there were similarities to play in qualifying in the CONCACAF World Cup, played in the Caribbean, and in such places where the field is not what you are used to and you know that the arbitration will be unbalanced. I say this trying to be fair. But that's part of everything, "said Arena.

Even the experienced technician said that the penalty awarded to the Islanders by referee Trevor Taylor, of Barbados, was a "bad decision."

Meanwhile, the president of the Islanders, Andres Guillemard, came to the defense of his club to the comments of Arena.

"We won 5-3, of which they got two goals. We won in their field. Does their coach's complaint is that our team is not good? Well, I'm sorry for him, because if the field had been good, we would have won them 8-2. That is the reality of this, "said an emphatic Guillemard.

FIRST POST HAS TO BE ABOUT LASHES - I am so excited, nervous

The translation is not perfect

Hello, it has been a while with the WC and everything. How are you?

Yoann: I'm fine and happy to come back to the Haillan Castle to see my teamates again and everyone that I have the chance to know since two years . I'm happy to come in a good environment and this is important because we lived a very tough World Cup so it's important to get fresh after vacation . We have to catch up  it won't be easy but I hope we'll do it.

You didn't get that much of a rest time after the World Cup, Alou Diarra told us few days ago that he wanted more holidays

Yoann: Yes psychologically, in 15 days, it's hard to recover to come back here with a lot of motivation. We actually don't feel that we have holidays because 15 days to get football out of you're head it's not enough. It is necessary to adapt i and work as.hard as possible because this is  the most important part of the season in my opinion.

What did you do on vacation ?

Yoann:  I was in Bretagne(where he comes from it's a region in the east of France) at home with my family and friends get back into a real life with people who have the same values as I have.

Kinda early but feel free to spam with whatever makes your heart feel warm for the time being!
Can i also drop off my new gif that i made on the night Barca beat K-League All Stars 5-2 a.k.a. the night Lionel Messi looked like a muddafucken beast ;o

second hand embarrassment *sigh*

I don't know if anyone has seen this.

In a show called Pura Química that airs on Argentina on ESPN, Laura Azcurra went to Newell's Old Boys' club to see the lower divisions play, and interviewed who she thought was one of the "parents" who was there to see his kids.

The best part is that Rolando Schiavi (former Boca, now Newell's Old Boys; also played for the NT) played along with her and acted as if he wasn't famous at all. He said he liked playing football only with his friends at the weekends, that he would've liked to be a Tennis player in another life, and that his current profession was playing Golf.

Also, when Laura asked him, being from Rosario and everything, if he'd ever met Messi, he said he had during the WC, because he had "contacts" inside AFA that had got him inside one of the trainings.

At this point, she asked to herself "And you ran into him there? Wait, are you a football player and I don't know? Because it might happen!" and Rolando was just "What? Nooooooo!"

*le sigh* dear lord -.-
