who exactly are these guys in suits???

Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart claims Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was forced by his club to turn down the chance to coach the Catalan giants, as was England boss Fabio Capello and that Barca will find it similarly difficult to secure a deal for Cesc Fabregas.

Gaspart tried to tempt Wenger to the Nou Camp in 2001, following the dismissal of Llorenc Serra Ferrer and prior to the permanent appointment of interim coach Carles Rexach.
However, Arsenal stood in their way, just as they are currently doing with captain Fabregas.

"When I was president, in agreement with Rexach, when Serra Ferrer left we negotiated with Arsene Wenger and Fabio Capello to coach Barca," Gaspart told Com Radio. "I met Wenger in Paris. He wanted to come to Barca but Arsenal didn't let him. The Arsenal chairman ordered him to fulfil his contract. Capello also wanted to come, but they (Roma) didn't let him either."

Who sells the most shirts?

Torres most popular Premier League shirt name

Fernando Torres in action for Liverpool
Torres has been in the top three for three successive seasons

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres' surname was the most popular to feature on replica Premier League shirts printed worldwide last season.

It is the second successive season the Spaniard has been top, while Anfield team-mate Steven Gerrard was second in the top 10 list compiled by SportingiD.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney moved up one place to third.

Figures are based on the number of official club shirts sold domestically and internationally.

Arsenal duo Cesc Fabregas and Andrey Asharvin were fourth and fifth, followed by Chelsea pair Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.

Manchester United's Nani and Dimitar Berbatov both dropped out of the top 10, along with Arsenal's Theo Walcott.

Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo had been second in last season's list but unsurprisingly his name does not appear following his world record transfer to Real Madrid last year.

Manchester United striker Michael Owen featured for the first time alongside Drogba, while Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher and Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez were top 10 re-entries.

Spain and Holland both fined by FIFA

The original article is from Marca, but translated by google because I'm a lazy bum and don't feel like doing it myself
Edit: English article thanks to sashaj22 :)

Spain and Holland, fined by the excessive number of cards in the final

Spain and the Netherlands have been fined by the excessive number of cards that had their players on 11 July at the end of the 2010 World Cup, played at the Soccer City in Johannesburg and won the set by Vicente del Bosque 1-0.

The Netherlands Federation will pay nearly $ 14,500 after they were reprimanded eight players, Robin van Persie, Mark van Bommel, Nigel de Jong, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Arjen Robben, Gregory van der Wiel and Joris Mathijsen and John Heitinga was sent off after see two yellow.
Meanwhile, the English collegiate Howard Webb, who led the final, rebuked the Spanish Carles Puyol, Sergio Ramos, Joan Capdevila, Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, so the RFEF must pay $ 9,650.

The regulation establishes misconduct disciplinary team where at least five of their players are booked.
It was the World Cup final in which were more yellow cards to exceed six in the final between Argentina and Germany México'86

idk how i feel, yes there were a lot of cards and violent tackles, but most of what the ref actually carded were NOT the worst of the game. Eh either way it was a pretty rough game so I can't say its undeserved.

p.s. my crappy internet won't let me load up the tags so can you guys help me and just put up a few tags for it plz??

Superliga 2010 Semi-Finals!!

After six enthralling games during the group stage of SuperLiga 2010, the semifinal stage matchups have been set.

The matchups for the semifinal stage have been set and are as follows:

Semifinal 1: Wednesday, August 4, 7 pm ET

New England Revolution (MLS) vs. Puebla FC (MEX), at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

New England Revolution reached the semifinal stage after stringing three victories – all 1-0 shutouts – to become the undisputed champs of Group B. Showing an organized and effective defense, the Revs won their opening match against Pumas UNAM, defeated MLS Eastern Conference rivals Chicago, and surprised offensive powerhouse Morelia to go unbeaten in the group stage. Because of their 3-0-0 record, New England will have homefield advantage for their semifinal match.

Puebla jumped off to a strong start in their first match and became even stronger in their second one. First, Los Camoteros outlasted Chivas USA in a 2-1 victory then used showed an impressive passing and finishing display to down Pachuca 3-1. In their third game, however, Puebla had no answer to Houston’s scrappy play and were shut out 1-0 by the Dynamo. Nevertheless, the six points (2-1-0) La Franja got were more than enough to secure them the second spot in Group A.

Semifinal 2: Thursday, August 5, 8 pm ET

Houston Dynamo (MLS) vs. Monarcas Morelia (MEX), at Robertson Stadium in Houston, Texas

Houston Dynamo kicked off their SuperLiga group stage with an emphatic win as Joseph Ngwenya’s brace lifted them past rivals Pachuca 2-1. For their second match, Houston hosted Chivas USA. Though it seemed that home team’s 6th-minute goal would hold up, the Dynamo dropped their guard and Goats striker Jesús Padilla found the net in the 71st to end the game in a draw. For their third match, Houston took on a potent Puebla and Dominic Oduro’s 63rd-minute goal sealed the win and the No. 1 spot in Group A for the Texas squad.

Monarcas Morelia seriously flexed their scoring muscles in the first game of the tournament. Monarcas brought in some serious reinforcements during the offseason and it paid off, as they crushed the Chicago Fire 5-1 in their opening group stage game. They followed that win with a 2-2 tie against Pumas UNAM. Morelia carried their tournament-high seven goals into their last game against New England, but it appeared the Mexican squad flexed too hard too early and couldn’t find the net as they were shut out by the Revs 1-0. Nonetheless, their four points saw them through to the second round.

I'm cheering for the New England Revs tomorrow. Partly because Matt Reis is awesome and happens to look like Batista from WWE.

Se llama Cheechareetoeee

In downtown Guadalajara there is a billboard so enormous it is almost impossible to ignore.

Towering above the Mexican city's Nike store, it features the image of a fresh-faced young man known across the nation as Chicharito, or "Little Pea".

With it are the words to strike a chill throughout the English Premier League this season: "The future of an entire nation is at your feet".

For Javier Hernandez, to give Chicharito his proper name, is Mexico's answer to Wayne Rooney - and this season they will be playing alongside each other at Manchester United.

In his home country, the Red Devils' new £7million signing is mobbed in the street and adorns the covers of dozens of magazines.

So basically, this article is trying to say that he's perfect. So after all those shitty articles you write, The Sun, you finally decide to write the truth? OIC.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on him? Do you think he'll solidify a first team spot within his first season like Valencia did last season, or do you think he'll have a rougher start?

another Barca post.. hehehe
