Germany captain Michael Ballack ruled out of World Cup

Germany captain Michael Ballack has been ruled out of this summer's World Cup because of the ankle injury he sustained in Saturday's FA Cup final.

The 33-year-old Chelsea midfielder has made 98 appearances for his country and appeared in the last two World Cups.

Ballack flew to Germany on Saturday for a scan, which revealed ligament damage to his right ankle.

He limped out of Chelsea's Cup final win after a challenge from Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Ironically, Boateng could be part of the Ghana squad that will face Germany in Group D at the finals in South Africa.

An early X-ray at the stadium showed no broken bones but a further scan in Germany on Monday highlighted the full extent of the problem.

The German Football Federation said Ballack's right ankle will be placed in a cast and he will have to wear a special shoe for two weeks after the cast is removed.

A Chelsea statement confirmed: "The German national team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, estimates the earliest possible return to training for the player is in eight weeks."

sorry to all the german fans :(

Calling all Germany NT supporters!

Today was (hopefully - knock on wood) the final nail in the coffin for this team. We lost our captain for the World Cup.. a major loss of whatever confidence we had left, and possibly a greater problem for the upcoming weeks. The last couple of years haven't been kind to us, facing the great loss of Robert Enke.. losing our next goal keeper, Rene Adler, to injury.. and now losing our captain. What this team needs now is our love and support. Our chances might suck right now, but we have to believe that we can still make some good out of our situation! We have to bring the teamgeist back.

So here is some inspiration.. in the form of an epic video by one of our own!

I've suddenly developed a strong dislike for David Villa.

Barcelona sports vice president, Rafael Yuste, has confirmed that the club has opened negotiations to sign David Villa (Valencia) and Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), and in the case of the Asturian striker talks are "going well."

Yuste pointed out that "in both cases, the willingness of players to come to Barca" makes it easier and while things are going smoothly for Villa, Cesc's case "is more complicated because they would still be facing a long negotiation with the club (Arsenal). But the two players want to come, and that makes it easier," added Yuste on Ona FM.

On the future of Thierry Henry, Barcelona sports vice president has admitted that both the player and the club should be "polishing the final touches and both parties are happy."

The French striker, with one year left on his contract most likely will end up in the MLS (New York Daily News say he's coming here!) "He could go out there, it is a country that he has always liked," said Yuste.

I liked you, David. I really liked you.

Random question.

I was wondering, who do you think are the most hated & least hated players on your team (hated by others that is, not you)? No reason really, I just thought it'd be interesting to see everyone's thoughts on other people's guesses and tings =)

Most hated players?

Least hated players?
