Inevitable decision is inevitable

West Ham have sacked Gianfranco Zola after narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

The Hammers finished fourth from bottom, five points above 18th-placed Burnley, and owners David Sullivan and David Gold have decided a change in manager is needed.

The search for a successor to Zola starts immediately.

The club confirmed they have terminated the Italian's contract after months of speculation over his future at the club.

Zola, who took charge in September 2008, struggled to keep the club in the top flight this season despite managing a squad including England players Robert Green, Matthew Upson and Carlton Cole.

A statement on the club's official website said read: "West Ham United confirm that they have terminated the contract of Gianfranco Zola

"The Board of Directors would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him well for the future.

"The club will now be focusing its efforts on seeking a replacement.

"The club will be making no further comment on this matter."

Poor Gianfranco. He really is a gentleman. But let's face it, Gold and Sullivan have been waiting for the chance to sack him.

Something that's personal to me.

Sir Tom wants football collection to stay in Preston

Preston North End legend Sir Tom Finney has insisted his precious collection of artefacts at the National Football Museum will not be allowed to leave the city.

The museum, at North End’s Deepdale ground, closed its doors for the final time at the end of April after last ditch talks to save it failed.

Now the facility is to reopen at Manchester’s Urbis building in 2011.

But a representative for Sir Tom, who has loaned a large collection of memorabilia to the museum and is its vice-president, says the winger’s collection will not be travelling with it.

Sir Tom promised when the Manchester bid became public last year that he would not allow his own possessions to become part of any exhibition there.

I don't know how many of you have visted the National Football Museum but basically it's next to my home town's team PNE and it has alsorts of stuff in; stuff on when United won the treble, Tributes to Hillsborough and lots of orginal stuff like shirts from a long time ago. Basically, the council here have decided they don't want to pay the money to keep it open and they've taken away somewhere me and my friends used to go and the only thing that attracted visitors here so ngl we're all pretty annoyed. :/
