Torres set to miss rest of the season - and the World Cup
Liverpool fear Fernando Torres’s knee injury could keep him out for the rest of the season.

The Anfield striker has been unable to travel to Barcelona to see his knee specialist because of the British ban on flying.

But the medical staff at Anfield believe Torres’s current problem may be cured only by going under the surgeon’s knife.

That would keep him out of the rest of Liverpool’s Premier League and Europa League games – and possibly the World Cup.

Reds’ boss Rafa Benitez said: “We are not sure whether he will play again this season. He needs to see the specialist and he will tell us whether Fernando needs an operation and when he will be back.”
Torres was hoping to get the all-clear to face West Ham at Anfield tomorrow. But he has been grounded by the volcanic eruption in Iceland that has made Britain a no-fly zone.

And insiders at the club are worried that only an operation will work – bringing a premature end to a season wrecked by injury.

I feel sick. I don't even care about the club season. This sucks. This World Cup isn't supposed to happen without him.....PLEASE DON'T BE TRUE.

Escape route for misfiring striker

BAYERN MUNICH are ready to offer Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov an escape route out of Old Trafford.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is planning to sell his £30million Bulgarian flop this summer and the German giants - who knocked United out of the Champions League - are monitoring the situation.

Despite interest from other Premier League clubs, Berbatov does not want to play for another English side. Instead, the former Spurs striker is eyeing up a return to Germany this summer.

He spent five years at Bayer Leverkusen before signing with Spurs.

Fergie will have six strikers when Javier Hernandez arrives from Chivas and although United spent £30m when they signed Berbatov from Tottenham in 2008, they will receive a fraction of that if they decide to cash in.

He has just two years left on his Old Trafford contract and, tellingly, United have made no attempt to begin talks over an extension.

Most players are given an indication by chief executive David Gill two years before the end of their contract that talks will soon begin.

Instead Berbatov is sweating on his future and is fears he will be the fall-guy if United fail to land the Premier League.

Berbatov started on the bench against Manchester City yesterday, replacing Wayne Rooney in the 75th minute.

His 12 goals this season rank the Bulgarian 11th on the Premier League scorers' list.

Please take him. Anywhere just go.

England ace Jermain Defoe caught playing foul with red-head in car.

THIS is the moment soccer star Jermain Defoe was caught with a young woman performing a sex act on him in a car as children played nearby.

The Spurs and England striker - who has boasted of being "the best role model I can" - risks jail after his obscene behaviour with the 20-year-old in a public street.

The photographer said: "Defoe was completely brazen. It was obvious what was going on."

FOUL: Defoe with girl hiding in car footwell AND where her car was parked

The seedy incident happened on Tuesday night, just 24 hours before his team's vital match against rivals Arsenal.

Defoe, 27, who scored against Chelsea yesterday despite tweaking his groin in training on Friday, was spotted leaving his mansion in Cuffley, Herts, on foot wearing a hoody at 8pm.

The player, who was recently linked to 22-year-old model Roxy Townsend, went straight to a blue Toyota RAV4 parked just 50 yards away.

Once inside he motioned to the red-head to drive to a nearby cul-de-sac of luxury homes where she again parked.

With a gaggle of children aged around seven or eight playing 100 yards away, the couple climbed into the back of the car.

How the Icelandic ashes will effect European football

- UEFA has announced that all Champions League fixtures will go ahead as scheduled
- They are expected to make a decision on the Europa League semi-finals today.

FC Barcelona will be travelling by bus to play their semi final against Inter Milan. The team leaves the Catalan capital this afternoon and will be staying overnight in Cannes. 1000 km separates the two cities, which may take up to ten hours of traveling if done by bus. However, there's a possibility that the team will be taking a flight from Nice to reach their destination in Milan.

Lyon are also set to leave for their game in Munich today by bus.

"We don't have the choice. There's not much we can do about the ash cloud," said team captain Cris.

"We have to travel by bus but we won't be the only team to do so."

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson said Saturday that they have been in contact with UEFA.

"One of UEFA's concerns is that it should be fair and that their opponents don't have to go through hell and high water to get to the game," Hodgson said. "An ideal scenario would be that the volcanic ash clears up and we can fly over to Germany.

"It's totally and utterly linked to if there are flights. If there are no flights then the only option is to get a train and bus to Hamburg. There could still be a further problem because there might be no trains or coaches to travel on but I'm confident UEFA will resolve the problem.''

There has been no word on travel plans or rescheduling yet, but it has been reported that the flight cancellations has delayed Torres from seeing his knee specialist in Barcelona.

um Barca are obviously traveling in space jets

What's the difference between Cheryl Cole and the Iceland volcano?

The volcano is still blowing ash.

Liverpool FC have confirmed that striker Fernando Torres will undergo surgery on a knee injury later this evening.

A club spokesman said: "Fernando saw a specialist in Spain earlier today and it was decided that he would need surgery on a torn cartilage in his right knee.

"This will be carried out later tonight. We cannot comment ahead of the operation, but as a guide, the usual rehabilitation period for this type of procedure is around six weeks."

how absolutely fantastic

i expect he'll be back for the world cup though

Manchester United's jubilation after a weekend that reinvigorated their title hopes has been tempered by the news that the brother of their striker Mame Biram Diouf was beaten up during a prolonged outbreak of violence after the derby victory against Manchester City.

Abdul Diouf, visiting his younger sibling while on holiday from Dakar, was punched and kicked to the ground because he was wearing his brother's shirt from the Carling Cup final, with the player's surname emblazoned above the number 32 – as worn previously by Carlos Tevez.

Witnesses said the 28-year-old was set upon after "walking the wrong way" during large-scale disorder outside the City of Manchester stadium. He was struck several times but did not lose consciousness. "He was attacked from behind by some Manchester City supporters as he was walking away from the ground," Jim Solbakken, Diouf's agent, said. "Fortunately he managed to get away without any bad injuries and he did not need medical treatment."

His attackers were heard shouting "Munich" in reference to the Munich air disaster in 1958 when a plane carrying United's team crashed, killing 23 people including eight of Sir Matt Busby's players.
