Man hurt at Stoke City football match dies.

A man who was injured during a Premier League football match at Stoke City has died in hospital.

Police were alerted to an incident in a concourse of the Britannia Stadium's south stand which housed Blackburn fans just after 1600 GMT on Saturday.

The 30-year-old fan, who was thought to have been hit on the head with a bin, was found unconscious. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

A 25-year-old man from Preston has been arrested over the incident.

'Terrible tragedy'

Staffordshire Police said the injured man was initially treated at the scene for a head injury and cardiac arrest by staff from West Midlands Ambulance Service and St John Ambulance.

The fan was resuscitated at the scene and then taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said: "A 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at 1.55am this morning at University Hospital North Staffordshire.

"The circumstances are being fully investigated and a 25-year-old man remains in custody and is helping police with their inquiries."

Ch Insp Adrian Roberts, match commander at the game which saw Stoke beat Blackburn Rovers 3-0, said there were just over 1,300 Blackburn fans at the game, and no Stoke fans were involved in the incident.

Football referees 'more likely to penalise taller players', say researchers
Study of more than 100,000 fouls show shorter players get backing of officials

As Fabio Capello weighs up the relative merits of Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe for his World Cup forward line, it is unlikely he will be taking into account the views of social psychologists. Perhaps he should.

Research on the apparent human tendency to associate size with power and aggression has shown that football referees are notably more likely to penalise taller footballers when they tangle with less lofty opponents, potentially bad news for the 6ft 7in Crouch but a boon for fellow striker Defoe, who is a foot shorter.

A study of more than 100,000 fouls in domestic, European and international football showed that the greater the height difference between the players involved then the more chance the referee will adjudicate in favour of the shorter one.

have you noticed this in matches? it's really apparent in spurs games-- crouch gets fouled on and never gets anything while 5'5"-ish aaron lennon is a magnet for getting calls his way.

What's going on here?

since it's been a bit slow today.. might as well make this into a post.

MATT DAMON:
(aka. Michael Ballack of Hollywood)

Chelsea or Arsenal?

Matt Damon was spotted yesterday at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea faced Arsenal.
He was holding a Chelsea booklet and what looks like a Chelsea scarf.. but around a year ago, Mr. Damon was showing his support to the opposition. He produced and signed two canvases for charity showing his support to the Gunners while showing his dislike to the Spurs.

so what's going on here? Has Matt changed his teams?
Did he just purchase some merch out of courtesy?
Was he just lying the first time?
Did he not know that Arsenal were the team in red?
Was he pretending to be a Chelsea fan so he could meet his doppelganger?
Is he actually just shooting another Bourne movie..?
do we even care?

DISCUSS.
