Edwin van der Sar's vigil for sick wife: Manchester United keeper by stroke victim Annmarie's bedside

**edited** according to The Times, Annmarie suffered a brain haemorrhage and is said to be doing "very poorly." Keep the prayers going :(

The wife of Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is seriously ill after a stroke.

Van der Sar is at his wife Annmarie van Kesteren’s hospital bedside in Holland awaiting test results.

Sportsmail understands Annmarie collapsed at home last Wednesday as Van der Sar and the couple’s two children, Joe and Lynn, were preparing to celebrate Christmas.

Out of action in recent weeks with a knee injury, Van der Sar had been given permission by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to return to his homeland for the festive period and to receive treatment from the Holland team doctor.

The 39-year-old former international is not expected back in Manchester until more is known about his wife’s condition.
Van der Sar is United’s No 1 and has been considering an offer to stay at the club for another season.

Wesley Sneijder and Yolanthe are going to marry!

OK, normally I don't care about them, I think they are anoying as hell.
But since nobody else posted this, I thought it was interesting enough to post.

Wesley en Yolanthe kopen appartement in Milaan

So after his failed real madrid transfer and after he slammed both Florentino Perez and Jorge Valdano and called them maffia figures, wesley is  starting a new life in Milan. And he never ever wants to come back to  real madrid.   damn alonso

But according to RTL Boulevard Wesley asked Yolanthe to marry him, while they were in a privat jet heading to Dubai. ( so romantic)  Where they are going to spent New Year.
And Yolanthe said YES!
Wesley said she makes him happy, and that he wants a big family with her.
Wesley was maried once, but he broke up with his wife Ramona. They have one son called Jessey.

How and where they  are going to marry is not yet known.
The newly engaged want to enoy their engagement first.

I can't find an English source, so I hope some Dutch fangirls can confirm this.
And sorry for my bad English  :P

yet another managerial sacking....

Irvine axed by Preston

Manager pays the price for poor recent run

Alan Irvine has been sacked as manager of Preston North End after a disappointing recent run of results.

Deepdale chairman Derek Shaw felt he had to act after seeing the Lilywhites slide down the table with just seven points gained from their last 10 games.

The 1-0 defeat by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday was the final straw for Irvine, who had been at the helm for just over two years.

Irvine, who was appointed from his post as assistant to former North End boss David Moyes at Everton, leaves the club eight points away from the relegation places, but the same margin adrift of the play-off places.

The Scot helped Preston beat the drop in his first season in charge before guiding them to last season's play-off semi-finals, where they were beaten by the Blades.

Shaw told the club's official website: "The decision was not taken lightly.

"Alan did an extremely good job in keeping us in the Championship and took us to the play-offs last season, however, after a good start to the 2009/10 campaign we have only picked up seven points from a possible 30 since our last away victory against Sheffield Wednesday on October 20th.

"In that period we have only scored six goals and that sort of record is not something we could allow to continue without addressing it.

"I would like to place on record the club's sincere thanks to Alan for his efforts in his time here; we will make further comment and announce who is in charge for the weekend's FA Cup tie later this week."

sky sports

Not many people probably care about this but I'm really annoyed as they are my home team and he's the best manager we've had in years the Championship is a really tight league. Now our chances of promotion have just gone. Managerial sackings in every league are ridiculous this season.

Fernando Torres became the fastest Liverpool player in history to score 50 goals tonight.

Fernando Torres struck a record-breaking winner as Liverpool closed the gap on fourth spot with a 1-0 win at Aston Villa in their final match of 2009.

The Spaniard drilled home deep into injury-time to give the Reds three precious points and become the fastest striker in the club's history to hit 50 league goals.

It means Rafael Benitez's side have secured back-to-back league wins for the first time since September and have now moved to within four points of fourth-placed Tottenham.

Going into the Villa Park clash, the Reds boss made just one change from the side that saw off Wolves on Boxing Day with Dirk Kuyt returning in place of Fabio Aurelio.
