Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres were today ruled out of this weekend's trip to Sunderland - though Rafael Benitez has received better news on the injury to Sotirios Kyrgiakos.
Both Gerrard (groin) and Torres (muscle) have failed to recover from knocks sustained on international duty, but both may return for our midweek Champions League clash with Lyon.

Kyrgiakos, meanwhile, limped out of Greece's World Cup qualifier in midweek, and initial press reports suggested he could be out for several months. However, Benitez expects the centre back to be available within a week to ten days.

Valencia vs Barcelona Preview

Barcelona travel to Valencia in the Primera Division on Saturday night with a seventh straight league win in their sights.

Pep Guardiola's side have started the campaign in impressive fashion, and they went clear at the top of the table before the international break following a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home to Almeria, after rivals Real Madrid lost at Sevilla.

Saturday night's match at Mestalla is likely to prove the toughest test so far for Guardiola's side, particularly as most of the Barcelona players were heavily involved in the final World Cup qualifying group matches this week.
