Zheng Zhi has vowed to help Celtic reclaim the Scottish Premier League title this season after enjoying an impressive debut for the club.
The China captain was thrown straight in at the deep end when asked to pull on the Hoops for the first time in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox earlier this month. Celtic may have returned to the east end of Glasgow empty-handed following a 2-1 defeat, which allowed the Scottish champions to slash their lead at the summit to a single point.
However, the 29-year-old has every faith in his new club's ability to reclaim their crown - and his own ability to make his mark at Celtic. "I hope that I can be a successful player here and win the league this season," he said.
"I know that Celtic has a long history and lots of supporters and I hope that when I leave I have a good name at the club and among the supporters and that people remember me."
Zheng was surprised to make his bow in the white-hot atmosphere of an Old Firm derby but believes the time he spent at Charlton helped him cope with the occasion. "To be honest, I didn't expect to play," he said.
"I had spoken to the manager beforehand and we had agreed that I might need more fitness. But then the day before the derby, Barry Robson was injured. It meant that the manager had to make a quick decision.
"I had heard about the Old Firm game before I moved here. I realise it's a big, important game, not just in Scotland, but across Europe and in football in general.
"I thought I did okay in this match, but I think it helped me that I got a lot of experience in England, playing in the Premier League and the Championship. It helped prepare me for this match and gave me an idea of what to expect."
He now hopes his versatility will help him nail a place in Tony Mowbray's plans this season. He told the official club website: "I can play as a second striker, but I can also play in the centre of midfield.
"Where I play is really up to the manager and he was the main reason that I joined Celtic. I hope that we can work well together and have a good relationship. It has been very good so far."
Well doesn't he look just thrilled, lol. But yay moar Asians in Europe!

Details of the surgery were not made available, but a USSF spokesman said the injuries were "possibly" career-threatening.
The one-car accident occurred around 3:15 a.m. on the southbound lanes of the parkway near the Memorial Bridge. A park police spokesman told reporters that the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a metal railing. A woman died at the scene. It is unclear whether Davies was the driver or passenger.
The team learned of the accident late in the morning. Breakfast was optional for the players, so when Davies did not appear, there was no concern. There were no official team functions scheduled until lunch. Coach Bob Bradley addressed the players in a meeting room at the team hotel in Pentagon City.
The U.S. team is in town for a World Cup qualifier Wednesday night at RFK Stadium against Costa Rica. The Americans clinched a Cup berth Saturday night in Honduras and has been based in Washington since Sunday.
Davies, 23, plays for French club Sochaux. He assisted on Conor Casey's first goal in the 3-2 victory in Honduras before being replaced late in the match. Davies, a native of New Hampshire, played at Boston College before turning pro after the 2007 season and signing with Hammarby in Sweden.
"As a team, we were saddened to learn this news," Bradley said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Charlie and Charlie's family as well as the others involved. ... It hit us all hard."

I didn't want to post this until more was released, but trying to keep my mind off this isn't really working. My hands are still shaking over an hour after finding out. :( My thoughts and prayers to everyone involved.

ETA2: @GrantWahl: Re: USSF spokesman saying Charlie Davies' injuries are "possibly" career-threatening: USSF withdrew statement. Not enough info right now.
ETA3: @GrantWahl: Charlie Davies' father, brother and sister are en route to Washington hospital. No reports yet that Davies has left surgery.
@GrantWahl: I spoke to Charlie Davies' mom, who told me what she believes he is having surgery on. 3rd-hand info, so I can't report it yet. Sorry.
Police also informed the USSF that Charlie wasn't the driver, so the third unnamed passenger was driving.

And STEVIE G IS RULED OUT OF BELARUS GAME.
what will BE the point of watching?
The midfielder sustained the problem in Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Ukraine and after limping out of training on Tuesday will now return to Liverpool.
Gerrard joins striker Wayne Rooney, who has a calf injury, on the sidelines.
Goalkeeper David James faces a late fitness assessment after sitting out the session with a knee problem.
Gerrard's absence will no doubt cause further headaches for the Italian, who is already missing the likes of Rooney, Jermain Defoe, Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves.
But one man who will continue in the side is Rio Ferdinand, despite being widely criticised for his performance in Dnipropetrovsk.
Fit-again Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster, meanwhile, has been called up as further cover for Green, having been omitted from the initial squad because of bruising to his ribs.
OBVS. AND GERRARD WILL PLAY FOR LIVERPOOL ANYWAY. BET YOU £10000.
AND ON ANOTHER NOTE.
LOL X 1000000000 @ BALLACK. XD
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will assess Ben Foster’s form and Edwin van der Sar’s return from injury over the next couple of months before deciding on James.
Van der Sar is due to return from injury on Saturday and, in a further blow to Foster, has vowed to hold on to his spot for another season, saying: “I do want my place back.”
Portsmouth are already braced for a battle to hang on to James in January but know they would be virtually powerless to stop him from moving to Old Trafford.
And he would be eligible to play in the Champions League. James, who would cost only about £1million, proved he is the leading candidate to start next summer’s World Cup as first-choice for England by producing an assured performance in the 1-0 defeat against Ukraine.
It is expected James will start England’s fi nal World Cup qualifier against Belarus tomorrow, with Robert Green, sent off against Ukraine, suspended.
Foster has been less than convincing in his efforts to prove he can succeed Van der Sar, 38, who is yet to play this season after breaking two bones in his hand.
Van der Sar made his comeback from injury in a reserve game against Everton last week and Ferguson will now monitor his recovery .
“Ben has had a couple of unlucky moments but I’m sure he is going to bounce back from this,” said Van der Sar. “He has the strength of character to overcome what he has been through .”
