More Nando Secrets!

Day I realised I'd never walk alone

His head may have been in Madrid but his heart was already in Liverpool.
Even though Fernando Torres didn’t actually realise it, his fate was already sealed.

A flick of the arm, a fleeting connection with a defender jostling for the ball and the ripped skipper’s armband revealed his destiny. The words were clear: ‘We’ll Never Walk Alone’

Hillsborough service sent a shiver through me

Fernando was a boy of four kicking a ball in his back yard as the Hillsborough tragedy unfolded.
The impact of that day and the 96 lives lost was fully brought home to him at the memorial service for the 20th anniversary on April 15 this year.

Rafa phoned to sign me... I thought it was a prank!

Three times his mobile phone rang with an English number. Three times he ignored it.
Eventually curiosity got the better of Fernando Torres and he returned the call. There was no answer. He jested to his wife Olalla: ‘That’ll be Benitez wanting to sign me!’ How right he was.

Gerrard is world's greatest player

Fernando Torres hailed Steven Gerrard the ‘greatest player in the world’ and insists: Liverpool would be lost without him.

The Short List: What It Takes to be a US National Team Fan

I saw this on Goal.com and it is the most legit thing ever. I know there are a lot of people in the US who, for whatever reason, don't support the US national team. And, I mean, whatever...if blumenfeuer and I haven't converted you by now with all our picspamming and shit, I don't know what will. But if you do decide to support the USMNT, there are a few things you have to do to be a ~true fan~. If you already do, here's a quick little checklist to make sure you're not doing it wrong:

RAFA: WINNING WAS ALL THAT MATTERED

Rafael Benitez insisted winning was all that mattered after Liverpool began their Champions League campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Debrecen.
The Reds boss admitted it had been a frustrating night against the Hungarian champions but insisted the three points were all that counted after his side were restricted to Dirk Kuyt's solitary first-half goal.

"We have confidence and we are winning games now which is important for the players," Benitez told his post-match press conference.

"To start the Champions League group stage with three points was always the most important thing and hopefully we'll see better things in the next game.

"We had some chances, we didn't take them and as a result we put ourselves under pressure at the end."

Despite falling behind in first-half stoppage time Debrecen's resilient display kept the Reds at bay after the break.

Benitez knew the Hungarians would come to Anfield to defend and felt a second goal would have made all the difference.

"It was a game against a side who were working hard and were well organised," he said. "We scored too late in the first-half, so it was more difficult and at the end of the game it was the same.

"We were in control in the first half and they didn't have too many options. The difference was that we couldn't score the second goal. But I am really pleased because in the end we won.

"They have good players and are well organised. We knew it could be difficult. I said before we'd have to see how they played against a top side and they showed they are a good team.

"We knew we had to score an early goal and change the game. We didn't and if that happens the other team keeps working hard until the end."

Asked if he felt his side were still struggling to find their best form, the boss said: "I don't think so. When you don't have too much confidence like before, you need to win. But we are winning games in a row now.

"The problem is that if you play against this type of team at Anfield and don't score early, they are going to press for every ball from the first minute and because of that it wasn't easy."

Nando needs to come back with 3 goals in 15 minutes imo :|
