Real Madrid Sign Referee Megia Davilla

Los Merengues president Florentino Perez has added Spain's top referee to the pay roll...

Real Madrid have added referee Megia Davilla to their ranks, according to reports in the Spanish press.

Davilla, who has won the Guruceta Trophy for the best referee in La Liga for the last two seasons, will join Madrid's Department of Institutional Relations.

The Guruceta Trophy is awarded by Spanish newspaper Marca who evaluate the performance of referees in Spanish football throughout the course of the season.

He will work under former Madrid player Emilio Butragueno and will work on such aspects of the game as maintaining good relations with official bodies and keeping players and coaches up to date with rule changes, as they occur.

Davilla is still registered as a referee but failed to make the physical fitness requirements to be actively involved this season. He is expected to announce his retirement from refereeing when his role at Madrid is made official., what else?

I don't know, I think it's pretty badass...

Jailed Liverpool fan Michael Shields to be released

Justice secretary Jack Straw pardons 22-year-old found guilty of attacking Bulgarian in 2005

Michael Shields, the Liverpool football fan convicted of attempted murder in Bulgaria in 2005, has been pardoned by the justice secretary, Jack Straw, his lawyer said today.

Shields was jailed for 15 years after being found guilty of attacking Martin Georgiev, a Bulgarian, on 30 May 2005.

The 22-year-old was in Bulgaria as he travelled home from Istanbul, where he had watched Liverpool win the 2005 Champions League.

In 2006, he was allowed to return to Britain to serve the remainder of his sentence, which was cut to 10 years on appeal. Straw had refused to pardon him in July.

Reports suggest Shields will be released from prison in Warrington almost immediately.

His solicitor, John Wheate, said the Liverpool fan was "absolutely ecstatic" when given the news earlier today.

His parents had been told of the decision in a telephone call with Straw.

"I don't know if Michael has been released yet, but I can confirm he has been pardoned and will be released today," Wheate said.

"His parents spoke to Jack Straw earlier this morning, and I have spoken to Michael myself.

"At first he couldn't believe it after all these years and knockbacks. But now he is absolutely ecstatic, and so are his family."

i dont know why they dont mention it, because it's because there is new evidence that proves he's innocent. he was in bed at the time that the attack happened, and somehow he got found guilty for it. poor guy had to serve 4 years in jail for his story to be believed =/

Queen Cheryl of Tweedsland buying the Toon Army

Kidding. But she so would.

Kimburrlay Walsh's wife would love to buy Newcastle United

Cheryl Cole has revealed she would love to buy Newcastle United if she had the money. The wife of Chelsea star Ashley, suggested she still considers the North East her home, and if she had the necessary finances, she would be knocking on Mike Ashley’s door.

Real Radio, host Craig Beck asked Cole: "You must have got a bit of cash. You don’t fancy buying Newcastle and putting Ashley at left back?”

“You know what - if I had that kind of cash I actually would. I would at this stage,”

“I always think of Newcastle as home, that’s my home. That’s where my family are, and where my old friends are.”

“I don’t go back as often as I would like, but I always go up there for Christmas.”

“I go back as often as I can - there is nowhere in the world like Newcastle.”

It's 09/09/09 and this post is just an excuse for me to express my love for Fernando a reminder of why we love Liverpool's number 9 so much.

This was his first goal (someone find a better video please?)

This was his most recent goal

There's also the small matter of his 51 other goals for our club.

Fernando Torres Liverpool's number 9!

Michael Shields, free at last.
