Kyrgiakos claims Reds offer

Greek defender Sotiris Kyrgiakos has revealed he is close to joining Liverpool.

As revealed by skysports.com earlier on Tuesday Liverpool have lined up a shock move for the former Rangers man to help bolster their defensive options.

Liverpool have moved for Kyrgiakos after being priced out of deals for Hull City's Michael Turner and Stoke's Ryan Shawcross.

The Reds are believed to have agreed a fee of €3million (£2.5million) with AEK Athens for the imposing central defender.

Kyrgiakos claims on his official website he has accepted an offer from Liverpool and is set to travel to England to tie up the move.

"I would like to inform the fans of AEK that on Monday night I received an offer from Liverpool, an offer which I have accepted," Kyrgiakos told his personal website.

The Greek international will help fill the void left by Sami Hyypia's departure from Anfield and he will provide cover for Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger.

CHELSKI MINI-PICSPAM VERSUS SUNDERLAND/HULL CITY

With GettyImages being butthurt and taking the cheat off their site, it's been harder to find images of the matches. Boo hiss. In any case, this is a spam of (39 images, semi-HQ) of the Chelsea matches versus Hull and Sunderland. So without further ado:

It's back my loves. Sorry for such a huge gap between the entries, but sometimes life happens. This is a special edition to get everyone back into the swing of things. We will return to our regularly scheduled programming next week with the final preliminary round before we move into the next round to start pitting winners against each other. Also there are no ties in this pairings. All match-ups go to a KO so be prepared to actually make a choice.

Scousers gain a Greek

Liverpool today agreed a deal with AEK Athens for centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos, subject to a medical.

The 30-year-old Greek international will arrive at Melwood for a medical examination before the weekend.

Rafa Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We have nearly done the deal subject to a medical. He is a player with experience who can hopefully help us in defence.

"He has experience in British football and Rangers. After that with Frankfurt and the national team. He's a good player in the air, strong and aggressive. We were looking for a player with experience.

"He will have the medical this week, it has to be before the weekend."

On how the signing would impact on young centre-backs such as Martin Kelly and Daniel Ayala, Benitez added: "The young players know they need experience and so to learn alongside people with this experience is better."

Welcome to Anfield, Soti! Hopefully this will give us more depth, yes?

I kind of feel bad now..

Weise wants Germany omission

The next two international matches for Germany will be held in Leverkusen, the place of Rene Adler's home club, and Hannover, home to Robert Enke's club. This is why Tim Weise thinks it would be counter-productive for him to play rather than the home fans' favourite.

"If I play, I am going to be jeered for 90 minutes long," he told the Bild newspaper. "I don't want to put myself through that."

"It's not good to be German and jeered by German fans.
The team would also suffer."

Instead, Wiese thinks Adler should keep goal in the friendly with South Africa in Leverkusen's BayArena on September 5 with Enke given the nod for the World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan four days later in the Niersachsen Stadion.

"I am going to talk to Jogi Low about this," he added.
(Maybe he should also let Mr. Low know that a certain centre back also deserves a place in the squad.. just sayin'.)

I guess this is good news for the Bundesadler.

MAH GURL IF LOOKS COULD KILL YOU'D BE DA NEXT MURDA - RA

O_O

FOOTBALL ace Jack Wilshere has called in police after a jealous female “fan” threatened to murder his girlfriend.

The 17-year-old Arsenal ace is being touted as a hot prospect for Fabio Capello’s 2010 World Cup plans.

And devoted fans have posted page after page of messages on internet sites.

But when pictures of his girlfriend – named online as Lauren Neal – were posted, so were threatening and spiteful messages.

On one site, a jealous girl calling herself “xCupCakes” wrote: “gah, lets kill her please?”

Another said: “She’s not good enough for him”, while one claimed she looked “like a boy”.

Last night Jack’s local police force vowed to investigate. A spokeswoman for the Hertfordshire force said: “We take threats of any nature very seriously.”

The remarks made against the girl followed pages and pages of adoration for the young footballer. A friend of the star, who lives with his parents in Hitchin, Herts, said Jack was “aware” he had a growing fanbase.

The pal said: “I guess it comes with the territory. But when it leads to nasty, vile stuff it’s really, really worrying.”

Stars like David Beckham’s wife Victoria have had to endure years of abuse from her husband’s devoted fans.

Pressure

An Arsenal insider said: “Jack is going to be a household name, no doubt about it.

“But he will receive every bit of assistance there is to help him deal with the fame and pressures that come with it.”

In the Emirates Cup the midfield ace bagged two goals against Rangers.

And England chief Capello was so impressed he’s considering taking him to next year’s World Cup.

He said: “I saw him twice in the Carling Cup last year and he has improved a lot now. We have time before we have to decide if he will go to South Africa.”
