More Transfer News

Aston Villa have agreed a fee of around £12m with Middlesbrough for their winger Stewart Downing. Downing is currently recovering from surgery on a fractured bone in his foot, and is unlikely to be ready for competitive football before October at the earliest, but it appears the Villa manager Martin O'Neill is now keen to complete a deal this summer, rather than waiting until January as had previously been suggested.

Downing, for his part, did not relish the prospect of playing Championship football as he looks to press his claim for a place in Fabio Capello's England squad ahead of next summer's World Cup. He had been promised by Middlesbrough's chairman, Steve Gibson, that he could leave if a big club came in at the right price and the Boro manager Gareth Southgate is resigned to losing the player.

Downing was given clearance to start gym work following a visit to a specialist last week and is due to have a pin inserted in his foot, which he fractured during a game against Aston Villa last season, removed during September. His surgeon is said to be "very pleased" with Downing's progress and is confident he will make a full recovery.

Martin O'Neill regards Downing as a partial replacement for Gareth Barry, and is also understood to have expressed an interest in Boro's Tuncay Sanli. Middlesbrough are reportedly demanding a fee of close to £8m for the Turkey international.

Patrick Vieira wants a payoff from Inter Milan before he can consider a return to England.

Vieira, 33, has one year left on his £85,000-a-week deal with the Italian champions, but would want compensation for missing out on a year’s salary that is higher than he would receive should he return to the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur have offered around £60,000 a week to the France midfield player, who played for nine years at Arsenal. It is believed that Vieira has reconsidered this offer after an initial rejection. Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain have expressed an interest but without tabling offers.

Didier Zokora, the Tottenham midfield player, has completed his £8.5 million move to Seville.

I am having a terrible day (no more Freddie!), but the thought of Viera playing for Tottenham is giving me serious lulz idk why. Also, i know that in this seasons window £12 million is chicken feed, but it still seems inflated for a mediocre player like Downing.

Bayern angry with a FifPro Contract sort of loophole

Spitting mad Bayern threaten legal action over Ribery

Bayern Munich are ready to play hardball over the proposed support offered by FIFpro to Franck Ribery as the French international reportedly weighs up instigating the Webster clause to force a move away from Bayern Munich. Football’s global union for professional players went public on their intentions to aid the 25-year-old should he opt to leave Bayern before his contract is up and the stance has caused a strom at the Allianz Arena. The news comes following a summer which has seen a host of European suitors, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid, linked with the 25-year-old winger.

FINALLY!! First Barcelona Transfer :)

FC Barcelona and Inter Milan have reached the beginning of an agreement for the transfer of the Brazilian Scherrer Cabelino Maxwell Andrade “Maxwell” for a fee of 4.5 million Euros with an additional 0,5 million in variable payments.

Scherrer Cabelino Maxwell Andrade, better known simply as “Maxwell” is a left back who’s been at Inter for the last three seasons and has been drafted in to cover the position left vacant by Sylvinho’s departure in June.

Maxwell is a versatile player who as well as filling the left back spot has also played in various more advanced positions during his career, which has been almost completely played out in Europe.

European experience

Born in Cachoeiro de Itapermirim (Brazil) on 27 August 1981, Maxwell made his debut in the top flight of Brazilian football with Cruzeiro and soon afterwards, at just 20 years of age, he made the switch to European football, joining Ajax Amsterdam, where he stayed for four years.

Three seasons and three league titles with Inter

Maxwell moved from one European giant to another when he signed for Inter Milan and although he was loaned out to Empoli, he rejoined Inter at the start of the 2006-7 season and went on to win 3 Italian Leagues and 2 Italian Supercups over the next three seasons.
Last season’s stats
Maxwell played a total of 33 games with Inter last season, 25 in the league, 4 in the Champions League and 4 in the Italian Cup and Supercup. He scored one goal during the season, in the league campaign.
