'I was so star-struck by my buddy Tom Cruise, I named my youngest son after him,' admits David Beckham

David Beckham is no stranger to mixing it with celebrities, but even he admits to being star-struck at times particularly where his good friend Tom Cruise is concerned.

In fact the football star is said to be so close to his movie star friend that when it came to naming his youngest son it seemed only natural to call him Cruz.

'I must admit, when [Victoria and I] met Tom, I remember turning around to Victoria and saying, "Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it different",' Beckham reveals.

'And also, living in Spain, Cruz is spelled the way it is in Spanish. So that's why we got it.'

Beckham told writer Grant Wahl that he turns to Cruise when it comes to most of his major decisions.

Wahl's recent book, The Beckham Experiment, devotes nearly an entire chapter to the 'bromance' between Beckham and Cruise who met in 2003.

Aurelio's injury not as bad as feared

Benitez calms Aurelio injury fear

Fabio Aurelio won the Spanish title with Rafa Benitez

Defender Fabio Aurelio could be out of action for as little as one month, Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has said.

Benitez confirmed the Brazilian had undergone cartilage surgery after damaging his knee on holiday.

"He was injured playing with his son and really disappointed because he was enjoying the summer," Benitez said.

"He had the operation - he has had a problem with his cartilage - so he will be one month, maximum two months, not six months like I see in the press."

The 29-year-old full back, who signed in July 2006 on a free transfer from Valencia, has become an established part of the Liverpool team, making 33 appearances in all competitions last season.

As well as brushing off speculation over the length of Aurelio's absence, Benitez dismissed rumours surrounding Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano.

The midfield duo have been linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona but Benitez said they remained Liverpool players.

"Both players are our players and we are really pleased with them," he said. "Both have two to three years on their contract so we don't need to do anything."

Karim Benzema is fit for action according to Real Madrid's medical servics at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital. Benzema passed all his tests with flying colors and has been cleared to sign his six-year deal with Real Madrid later this afternoon.
The French stiker arrived at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital at approximately noon, where several members of the media waited to snap their first images and fans requested autographs.

The medical checkup confirmed that the player is in perfect health, which should come as no surprise being that Benzema is only 21 years old and has never suffered a severe injury. Real Madrid's medical services performed blood and urine tests, an electrocardiogram, and echocardiogram, and MRI, x-rays and a biomechanics exam.

With the results in hand, Chief of the medical services team, Doctor Carlos Diez said that, "the player is in perfect shape to play sports at an elite level" and that Benzema "arrived in great form after his summer holiday." The next stop on today's agenda is none other than Benzema's future home, the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Benzema fulfilled one of the highlights of the day: his visit to the Santiago Bernabeu. After a brief tour of the stadium offices, Benzema granted his first interview as a Madridista to Real Madrid's official media outlets.

After successfully passing his medical, Karim Benzema met supporters that were waiting for him outside Sanitas la Moraleja Hospital and signed several autographs.

Louis van Gaal bans Bayern Munich players from going to discos

German newspaper Bild reports this morning that new Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal has banned his players from going to discos.

The Dutch coach said he will have informers at many of the night clubs in Munich including Munich P1, probably the most famous disco in the city.

The former AZ Alkmaar coach also banned night club activities during his spell at Barcelona.

Bayern Munich’s new sports director said: "We want our players to behave professionally and have the right attitude towards the club."

Hamit Altintop appeared to be visibly annoyed about this new rule saying: "Work is work. Private is private. The coach hasn’t said anything about this to us."
