De la Red out for 2009/10 season

Real Madrid midfielder Ruben De la Red has been ruled out of the entire 2009/10 season as doctors struggle to explain why he collapsed during a match in October.

The incident occurred during a Copa del Rey clash at Real Union in October, with the 24-year-old only regaining consciousness once he had returned to the dressing room.

De la Red missed the rest of the campaign as a precaution and doctors are still unsure what caused the player to fall motionless to the ground.

The incident gained massive attention in Spain following the death of Sevilla's Antonio Puerta, who collapsed in similar circumstances and died three days later just over a year ago in a league game against Getafe.

De la Red revealed that he still harbours hopes of one day returning to the game but at present he has to keep going for checks every two months until doctors discover the extent of the problem.

"What I have doesn't have a name and as of today there is no concrete answer," he told Marca.

I hope they do find the cause of that collapse soon...

Cesc Fabregas: I Would Like To Join Barcelona, But I Have An Arsenal Contract

Cesc continues to be pelted with questions about his future, but this time it wasn’t from the media.

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has failed to escape questioning over a potential future move to Barcelona, although the grilling he received on Tuesday came from a somewhat unexpected source.

Despite repeatedly pledging his loyalty to the Gunners, Cesc is continually asked if he will join the Blaugrana this summer.
The press, as well as the Blaugrana themselves, have never been too convinced with his answers. Neither are Fabregas’ young fans from his hometown of Maresme in Catalunya.

The playmaker, accompanied by good friend, Gerard Pique, attended a gathering at the Arenys de Mar sports facility, where he will hold a summer camp - ‘Campus Cesc’ - this Saturday, but 70 school children were given an early glimpse of their hero during a meet and greet.

And the first question that the kids asked, without hesitation, was, “Cesc, why do you not want to join Barcelona?

He replied, as quoted by El Mundo Deportivo, “I would like to, but I have a contract with Arsenal and it is necessary to respect it.

None of the young fans were too happy with the answer as they turned their attention to Pique.

Why do you not convince Cesc to join Barca?” they asked, to which the Blaugrana defender replied, “I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to convince him, but there is no way… not for now.

Fabregas was, however, given some reprieve when a Gunners fan asked him if he is going to stay at the Emirates.

“I am the captain, and rest assured, I will continue at Arsenal, the 22-year-old midfielder affirmed.

THAT IS THE REASON I DO NOT LIKE KIDS.

Michael Owen set to sign for Manchester United?

Michael Owen will sign for Manchester United on a free transfer today provided that he passes a stringent medical.

The move to Old Trafford would represent an astonishing turnaround in fortunes for the striker, who was relegated with Newcastle United only six weeks ago. On top of the prospect of winning medals with the Barclays Premier League champions, the chance to pair up with Wayne Rooney will give Owen hope that he can revive his England career.

I wanna have dinner with Sir Alex. :(

Cristiano Ronaldo flies in for goodbye meal with Sir Alex Ferguson

Cristiano Ronaldo made a flying visit to Manchester to say goodbye to his old boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The star striker got a private jet from Portugal for a discreet meal with the United manager, who he called his “second father”.

They met at one of Sir Alex’s favourite restaurants in the swish Alderley Edge Hotel, just a few hundred yards from Ronaldo’s former home in Cheshire.

A source at the hotel said: “It was a low-key affair. Cristiano just wanted to say thanks for everything Sir Alex had done for him.”

Sir Alex paid a gushing tribute to the 24-year-old footballer following Monday’s meal.

He said: “Cristiano has been a marvellous player for Manchester United. His six years at Old Trafford have seen him develop into the best footballer in the world. He has been a major factor in the club’s success and everyone here wishes him well in his future.”

awesomesauce

Also, Cristiano said some nice things about Sir Alex, Wayne Rooney and United fans, quoted over here at the Republik of Mancunia.
