Samuel Eto'o takes a step closer to Manchester City as Barcelona make £37m move for David Villa

Barcelona have made a £37million bid for Spain striker David Villa as they prepare for life without Manchester City target Samuel Eto'o.

Barca's summer spending budget is only around £25m, meaning they would need to sell Eto'o to fund a move for Villa on top of their other targets.

Nou Camp president Joan Laporta would love to strike a new deal with his Cameroon striker, who is out of contract next summer.

But talks have hit a brick wall, forcing the European champions to try to cash in now rather than let him leave on a free next summer.

Oh look, a defender!

Real Madrid and Valencia have reached a deal for the transfer of Raul Albiol, which will take effect next week following the mandatory physical and signing of the contract by the player. The 23-year old has agreed to a five-year contract and will be presented next week.

2010 World Cup is getting Barack Rolled

US President Barack Obama has accepted a Florentino Perez FIFA invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Cup, the football governing body's president Sepp Blatter said on Monday.

"The president of the United States has been invited to the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Cup. He has accepted our invitation," Blatter told reporters.

"But you know that heads of state are extremely busy and hopefully his schedule will allow him to attend," he added.

The opening ceremony would be performed at the new 100,000-seat Soccer City stadium on the outskirts of Soweto. The match would feature either hosts Bafana or defending world champions Italy.

Blatter again stressed he had full confidence in South Africa's ability to host a successful World Cup.

"In past years the reason that the World Cup has never been staged in Africa is because people in the rest of the world did not trust Africa.

"I trust Africa and South Africa. It is time the rest of the world did the same. The world will see a fantastic spectacle in Africa in 2010. South Africa are going to make everyone proud of Africa," he said.

Robinho Warns Real Madrid Fans: Kaka Loves Backstreet Boys' Music
The former World Player of the Year has a guilty pleasure, according to an international team-mate.

Manchester City's samba star Robinho has tried to embarrass his international team-mate Kaka upon the former AC Milan attacker's transfer to Spanish heavyweight club Real Madrid by making public knowledge the €67.2 million-rated forward's love for popular 1990's boy-band, the Backstreet Boys.

When probed as to the musical preferences of the 27-year-old, Robinho, himself a former player of Real, is reported to have claimed to the press, "Kaka? Music? He will only listen to the Backstreet Boys!"

The Backstreet Boys are best known for their romantic and smash-hit beats, and boast such tracks as: 'Quit Playing Games With My Heart'; 'As Long As You Love Me'; and 'Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely'.

Kaka could car-share with Manchester United's £80 million star Cristiano Ronaldo, should they both live within the same vicinity of Real's Santiago Bernabeu home, as the Portuguese international is also partial to the odd cheesy single, and is alleged to have Phil Collins in his CD-rack.

Ronaldo's attacking team-mate for five years, Wayne Rooney, meanwhile, is said to be friends with rap mogul P Diddy (formerly known as Puff Daddy) after the England international, along with his then girlfriend - now wife - Colleen McLoughlin, won a weekend with the 'Come With Me' star during a fundraising bash hosted by David Beckham.

Hate is such a strong word..or not.

Arsenal no longer loathe Spurs as much, West Ham don't hate Millwall and Chelsea have become the new Man United...

Tottenham's long-suffering fans haven't had much to shout about in recent seasons.

Since the Premier League's inception in 1992, the club have never finished higher than fifth and have added just two League Cups to their dust-gathering trophy cabinet.

It might be a little harsh to suggest they're an irrelevance, but they certainly have been when it comes to challenging for major honours in the Premier League era.

And now north London rivals Arsenal have rubbed salt in the wound by naming Chelsea - alongside Spurs - as the club they dislike the most.

In a survey of the capital's supporters conducted by Football Fans Census, Chelsea topped the list as the team London fans love to hate, but followers of Tottenham will be dismayed to learn that they are no longer considered Arsenal's main rivals anymore.

Despite Arsenal's growing indifference to their north London neighbours, West Ham fans voted for the boys from White Hart Lane as the team they dislike most with more than double the votes of second-placed Chelsea.

That particular rivalry appears to be one-way however, with Tottenham naming Chelsea and Manchester United as the teams they dislike most - after the Gunners.

But although a section of Arsenal's support now no longer consider the traditional rivalry with Spurs relevant, their own fading fortunes have ensured they're no longer regarded by Chelsea as a main rival.

Fans of the west London club have now turned their attention to the big boys of English football, Liverpool and Manchester United - with Tottenham given an honourable mention in third-place.

West Ham's grudge against Sheffield United (for their opposition to the dodgy Carlos Tevez) shows no signing of going away with the Yorksshire club appearing third on their list, ahead of traditional rivals Millwall.
