Goroth's Goodbye

Barry's open letter to Villa fans

After all the speculation over the last 12 months, I want the chance to explain my decision to the Villa fans.

Firstly I want to thank them for the incredible support I have received over the last 12 years, this football club has been a huge part of my life, I joined as a 16-year-old boy and now I am moving on as a 28-year-old man with a wife and two children.

A lot of things have changed in that time, players, management and a chairman - but every season bar none, whether we have been bottom half, mid table or challenging for Europe, the support myself and the team have received has been fantastic.

My one huge regret is that during my time at this club we have not brought the fans the success they deserve. I obviously have to take my share of responsibility that we have not been good enough to win trophies.

Arsenal Striker Bendtner Hits Back At Ibrahimovic 'Junior Team' Claims

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The Dane thinks the Inter's striker's criticisms of the Gunners' transfer policy is way off the mark...

Nicklas Bendtner has hit back at Inter forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic's claims to feel sympathy for Arsenal fans, because of the thrifty transfer policy of Gunners' manager Arsene Wenger, with the Frenchman preferring to keep the club on a sound financial footing by investing in youth rather than big-name stars.

"Just look at Arsenal. They don’t buy the best players, which is sad, very sad for their supporters," the Swede told Aftonbladet.

"They pay a lot of money for a season ticket just to see a junior team. That can't be fun."

However, Bendtner has responded forcefully to those claims, asserting that his manager knows exactly what he is doing, and has only the best interests of the north London club at heart.

“He is not correct. His words don’t make any sense at all," he affirmed to Danish newspaper B.T.:

"We could have performed better this season but we did reach the semi-final in the FA Cup and the Champions League. Further than his Inter side.

“We scored as many goals as Manchester United and that shows what we are capable of.

"And in the Premier League there’s so much competition because it’s the best league in the world. It’s clearly better than Zlatan's league, Serie A."

Arsenal's transfer targets, if any, for the summer are yet unclear, but they have been linked with players as diverse as Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins and Bolton Wanderers' England defender Gary Cahill.

Steve Bruce confirmed as Sunderland Manager, Lucas Neill leaves, Chelsea don't make a bid for Kaká

Bruce Confirmed as Sunderland Manager

Steve Bruce was this afternoon confirmed as Sunderland's new manager after lengthy negotiations finally came to a successful conclusion.

The 48-year-old has sealed a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light to take up the challenge of establishing the Wearsiders in the top half of the Barclays Premier League table.

He will be unveiled at a press conference at 6pm tonight.

Neill To Leave Hammers

West Ham have confirmed Lucas Neill is set to leave after the captain rejected the offer of a new one-year contract.

The Australian wanted a new 12-month deal to take him to the 2010 World Cup, but the Hammers claim the defender rejected a "significant" offer.

A club statement read: "West Ham wish him well after two-and-a-half years' service, and will focus on improving the first-team squad for next season."

Chelsea launch Kaka Bid

Chelsea have made an astonishing £73.5million bid for AC Milan superstar Kaka, according to Sky Sports News sources.

The brilliant Brazilian, widely regarded as one of the finest players on the planet, was targeted by Manchester City in the winter transfer window but elected to remain with the Serie A giants.

Kaka went on record as recently as Tuesday to insist that he was happy with the Rossoneri and had no plans to move on this summer.

But further speculation emerged that Real Madrid were planning a swoop following Florentino Perez's appointment as president, with the returning supremo eager to make another 'Galactico' signing.

And Sky Sports News sources now understand that Chelsea have tabled a bid which trumps the reported offer of £56million from Santiago Bernabeu.

Former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was installed as the new Blues manager on Monday and he could now be set to link up again with the talented playmaker.

Chelsea's £73.5million bid is reported to be backed up by an offer of £10million-a-year in wages after tax for Kaka in a bid to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

EDIT: Chelsea FC deny these claims apparently.

Chelsea Football Club has issued the following statement in response to reports that we have made a world record transfer offer for Kaka.

'We have never made an offer to AC Milan for Kaka and therefore not one at this extraordinary level. As a consequence we have not discussed a salary with the player either. Any reports to the contrary are totally untrue.'

Arsenal Football Club celebrated a fundraising bonanza at its annual charity ball on Thursday evening. The event was held in aid of the Club’s Charity of the Season, Teenage Cancer Trust, the charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people with cancer, with funds from the evening also going towards the Arsenal Charitable Trust.
The ball netted over £200,000 for the Club’s Charity of the Season and Arsène Wenger and the first team squad were all in attendance. Take a look at the exclusive pictures from the evening below.

Mhm, I have nothing to say on the matter but under the cut there are more pictures of pretty men in suits.
