Juve confirm Cannavaro deal
Italian defender signs one-year deal from Real Madrid

Juventus have confirmed that Fabio Cannavaro will complete his move from Real Madrid on 1st July.

The defender has rejoined Juve on a one-year deal after Real decided against renewing his contract.

The switch should come as no surprise with the defender admitting last month that he would love to return to the club despite the unrest it would cause amongst Juve supporters.

Many fans were angry when the Italy skipper departed for Real in 2006 following the club's relegation to Serie B in the aftermath of the match-fixing scandal.

The ill-feeling surrounding the centre-half worsened when other stars such as Alessandro Del Piero, Gianluigi Buffon, Pavel Nedved and David Trezeguet opted to stay.

The Old Lady sacked coach Claudio Ranieri on Monday after going seven games without a win but the deal to bring Cannavaro back to Italy still went through.

Now his future is sorted the World Cup winner is confident he can win over the Juve faithful.

"I am sure I will be able to convince even the most sceptical [sic] fans thanks to my hard work, professionalism and passion with which I will approach this new adventure," he said.

Andrey Arshavin: Arsenal Need Two Or Three New Players

Arsenal star Arshavin has assessed the state of the much-maligned Gunners...

Arsenal have come under fire during a below-par end to the season, and January signing Andrey Arshavin has been one of the few players to provide cause for optimism ahead of next season, however, he has insisted that the club need to add extra players if they are to challenge for the Premier League more seriously next season.

The Russian playmaker has his own ideas about how the Gunners should progress, although he insists it's not all doom and gloom in the red and white half of north London.

Speaking via Arsenal Spot, he's quoted as saying, "I want to win many trophies; from next season, I’m expecting victories in the Champions League and in the Premier League.

"I do think we need to buy two or three players, but it’s up to our manager to decide which positions he wants to strengthen.

"I wouldn’t say [the problem is] a lack of experience, since Arsenal consistently play in the Champions League and always gets to the latter stages of the competition. Thankfully, many players have had plenty games against top opposition in the Premier League as well.

"I think sometimes they could do with a bit more maturity or composure, but it will come, given time."

Asked about his early experiences as a Gunner, he revealed, "You can’t give any less than 100 per cent. The manager won’t allow this and team-mates won't appreciate that either.

"Adapting hasn't been easy, but it's getting better by the day.

"Off the pitch, I'm friends with Cesc [Fabregas], [Nicklas] Bendtner and [Kolo] Toure. On the pitch, though, I have good understanding with everyone."

The 27-year-old appears to be in fine fettle, despite the turmoil involving gaffer Arsene Wenger and unsettled Emmanuel Adebayor of late.

When I think of him and Nicklas being friends this is the image I have in my mind and I also now read his name as Arshawin

The Guardian newspaper is doing an interesting feature on The Seven Deadly Sins of Football with each day dedicated to a different sin. They're giving away a free supplement with the paper and I only just spotted they were doing this (on day four!). The good thing is though, is that each day is available online here.

For anyone who's not up on their biblical knowledge, the seven deadly sins are as follows:

1. Greed [Featuring Ashley Cole, Michael Ballack, Brian Clough and David Beckham]
2. Pride [Featuring Steven Gerrard, Gazza and Wayne Rooney]
3. Wrath [Featuring Gazza, Tony Adams and Graeme Le Saux.]
4. Envy [Featuring Bruce Grobbelar, Mouriniho and Scolari.]

Still to come:

5. Gluttony
6. Sloth
7. Lust

If you can get hold of the paper versions of these, I would totally recommend it as they are a really good thing not just to read, but to keep too. Such a lot of work has gone into them and they're really interesting.

Oh Sami Sami

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

To mark the 10th anniversary of the week in which Sami Hyypia first arrived at Anfield we've put together a Kop 10 of his key moments in a red shirt.

1.Sami who...Ron Yeats mark II

When Gerard Houllier splashed out a little over £2 million on a Finnish centre back plying his trade in Holland, it would be fair to say one or two eyebrows were raised.

Le boss had made strengthening a brittle and somewhat porous defence a priority, but few could claim to have heard much about one of Willem II's star performers.

Still, Kopites need not have worried. Sami may well have been just one of seven newcomers in Gerard Houllier's French Revolution, but he would ultimately go on to stand out as the pick of the bunch.

However, back in the summer of 1999 few would have backed him to become an Anfield legend at the time of putting pen-to-paper - including his new teammates.

"They all had this look on their face, 'Who's this Hyypia... where does he come from?", he recalled years later.

"Some people didn't have a clue who I was.

"Maybe they thought someone had lost their way and walked into the training ground by accident."

Standing at a commanding 6ft 4 inches it wasn't long before everyone knew who Sami was. A few games into his Reds career and he was already being hailed as the new Ron Yeats - somewhat fitting given that the man Shanks dubbed his Colossus was the one who was sent to make a scouting report on the Finn.

Over the past 10 years you could count Sami's off days on one hand, but don't just take our word for it.

Even Sami's debut was solid, as the Daily Post reported in August 1999 after Liverpool beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough.

"Defensively, works remains. While Jamie Carragher was exemplary alongside the impressive Sami Hyypia, the full-backs looked ill-at-ease..."

David Villa has spent the Tuesday morning in Madrid. The Spanish forward has traveled to the capital with his wife, Patricia who is pregnant with their second child. One of the reasons of the trip was to visit some of the shops in the central district in Madrid.

After an intense morning of shopping, the couple ate at a restaurant near the Santiago Bernabeu, the stadium in which el Guaje has been speculated to play at next season. His visit to Madrid has come less than a week after Florentino Perez announced his candidacy for present of Real Madrid.

This Wednesday, Marca will offer its readers a dramatic story from our editor Ulises Sanchez-Flor who was with the Spanish striker during his visit to Madrid

Extra Help For Pep?

With the Champions League final around the corner, it seems like Pep Guardiola might get some extra help to defeat Manchester United..

Matías Manna is 25 year old journalist from Rosario. In 2004, he created a blog called Paradigma Guardiola. In his last post, he asks all the Guardiola fans to put together information on Manchester United, so he can later send the Barcelona coach all of the English club’s secrets.

“When I started the blog I wrote to him and I sent him some interesting tips. Later on, when he came to Argentina, he e-mailed me and invited me over to his hotel because he wanted to meet me”. Manna, to thank him for the invitation, gave Pep the book “Operación Masacre”, by Rodolfo Walsh. (brb. dying at the thought of Pep reading Operación Masacre. I'm totally pimping this book, go read it)

“One time, I edited a video with all of Rafa Márquez’ moves in a match and I sent it to Guardiola. He told me he’d liked it, that he had watched it and he was thankful. I figure he’ll watch whatever we send him regarding this final”, says Manna.

Also, here's the blog in case the Barcelona fans want to help: Paradigma Guardiola.
