Liverpool wins something

Stevie G may have missed out on the PFA gong to Ryan Giggs but that doesn't mean his tremendous performance this season has been unnoticed by others. Apart from picking up the PFA Fans' Player Of The Year, hes now been voted the 2009 Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers' Association. This makes him the first Liverpool player to win the prize since since John Barnes in 1990! Here's what he had to say:

"I got a phone call from Ian and was debating whether or not to take the call because I thought I might have been in the papers for the wrong reasons!" said Gerrard. "I'm delighted but a little bit surprised. When you look at the quality of the players there are in this league, it's a great privilege. It's made even more special for me because I am following in the footsteps of Liverpool players like John Barnes, Steve Nicol and Kenny Dalglish, who were heroes of mine.

"It's not just the Manchester United players – when you look at the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal and other teams, they all have fantastic players throughout their squads now. The quality is getting better and better each year so to win this award is a great achievement for myself. But I've had fantastic help along the way from everyone at this football club. My family and friends come every time I play and they are a very big part of everything I achieve in football because they are there for me 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"But the biggest thank yous have to go to the manager, the coaching staff and my team-mates. Individual awards are great but you don't win them without great help from those people."

Gerrard beat six Man United players to win this award. Second in the polling came Ryan Giggs, followed by Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Carrick.

Liverpool Gangstas in Daniel Agger's Neighborhood

A trio of masked gunmen are being hunted by detectives after they sprayed bullets outside the home of premiership footballer Daniel Agger.

Witnesses say they saw three men with scarves around their faces speed into the leafy suburban cul-de-sac Cedar Close, just before 11pm on Tuesday night.

The masked men then fired three shots at a house, only 20 yards away from Agger's five bedroomed mansion, before screeching away from the scene in a silver saloon car.

Danish centre-half Agger, only moved into the £1.4 million pound residence on Yew Tree Road, Allerton earlier this year but the same house has been involved in gangland style shootings before.

Last year the son of murdered city businessman David Ungi - whose killing sparked a ferocious gun war - was also shot at outside the plush mansion where Agger now resides.

His son, boxer Michael Ungi narrowly escaped death after being hit in the side by bullets in the drive by shooting.

Agger who earns a reported 60,000 a week, was thought to be at home with girlfriend Sofie and new baby son who is only five days old at the time of the attack- although no body was hurt.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Carlos Tevez has been offered a permanent deal at Old Trafford.

The Argentina star's two-year loan with the defending Premier League and European champions is due to expire at the end of the season and he has been linked with a move to Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester City.

But Ferguson has always maintained that he is keen to keep the 25-year-old in his attacking armoury, and the Scot has confirmed that chief executive David Gill is working to push a deal through.

After watching substitute Tevez - who is owned by Media Sports Investment - score United's equaliser as they came from behind to win 2-1 at Wigan on Wednesday, the United boss has revealed that the forward has been offered terms.

"He is a fantastic little player. He knows I want him to stay," Ferguson told Sky Sports 1 when asked about the former West Ham player, who has been rumoured to be unhappy with a lack of first-team football with the Red Devils.

"I have had a chat with him today. David Gill has had some meetings today and it has progressed, I'm sure, further.

"We hope we get what we want to get. I'm sorry to have to keep on with this all the time, but it has never changed."

Ferguson believes that the stumbling block in a permanent deal has been the fact that business is being conducted with Media Sports Investment.

"We are not negotiating with a football club, that is the problem," he added.

"I think Carlos himself is okay. I think the terms he has been offered are good."

*fingers crossed*

Edits are buzzkills:
A spokesman for Tevez’s advisor, Kia Joorabchian, tonight denied Manchester United had made an offer aimed at keeping the Argentinian at Old Trafford.

In a statement released to PA Sport, the spokesman said: “It is true David Gill came to see Mr Joorabchian and they had a cordial meeting. It is categorically untrue that Manchester United made an offer to try to persuade Carlos Tevez to stay at the club.

“In 2007 Manchester United agreed a two-year loan deal for Carlos Tevez and at the same time agreed the terms that would make the transfer permanent. They have not taken up that option.

Because Maradona Does Have Some Good Ideas..

This is shameless Argie post number 2!
As most of you may know, the majority of the footballers in the Argentina NT play for European leagues (Portugal, Italy, Spain, England, Germany, etc).
Well, Maradona decided to put together a local NT, for footballers currently playing in Argentina, in Primera División. This local NT will be facing Panamá in a friendly next week, in the Colón stadium (I don't know who decided to play in Santa Fe, but that's a great idea too).

So, come in to meet some new faces: the talent that European leagues haven't picked up on (yet)

I wanted to post an article about their first training session but they were a bit dull. All the players ·shaking and crying· because they'd met Maradona, hahah.

Pennant strikes La Liga deal

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Former Arsenal, Leeds United and current Liverpool right winger Jermaine Pennant has clinched a Bosman transfer to Spanish club Valencia this summer according to reports in the Spanish press.

Pennant, currently on loan at Portsmouth was keen to stay at Anfield, but sources suggest Rafa Benitez has been told to cut the wage budget at Anfield, if he wants to sign his transfer targets this summer.

The wideman was linked with a shock move to Real Madrid in the January transfer window but the deal fell through after Pennant decided he wanted to fight for his place at Anfield.

The reports will come as blow to Pompey fans after Pennant admitted yeaterday that a move to the South Coast was a possibility. He said:
"It's always going to be an option. I've enjoyed my time there. I've had a very hard season, but next season we'll see what happens."

All we need now is Xabi to say it himself

Xabi Alonso's agent has dismissed reports linking the Liverpool man with a move away from Anfield.

Recent reports have suggested cash-rich Manchester City and Arsenal were lining up moves for the Spanish schemer.

Alonso's future at Anfield has been the subject of speculation for some time after a move to Juventus failed to materialise last summer.

The 27-year-old has shrugged off the speculation and has arguably Liverpool's player of the season with a number of impressive performances.

Alonso's agent Ignacio Ibanez insists he has not heard anything from anyone and that the player is happy at Liverpool.

"I know nothing about these reports [of interest from City]," Ibanez told

"As Xabi has always said he is happy at Liverpool and focused on them."

Pep wins the Spanish Copa!!!

Barca won their first title of the season today!

this was Messi's first final ever for Barcelona!
and Pep's first trophy as a coach!

Sure, it was "just" the Spanish cup -- a trophy that matters little outside of Spain but this is just the first of the available titles for Barca this season. With the copa in the bag, and the league well in their hands, winning the Champions League in Rome would mean ~*~tripling the trophy cabinet fun!~*~~ Hmmm, sound like another team we know?

So here's a lil picspam with alotta gifs, goal highlights, Hleb speaking spanish...the usual
