Manchester United Wins Champions League Final
MOSCOW — A domestic rivalry splashed over international borders on Wednesday when England’s two best soccer clubs took their tenacious battle to the banks of the Moscow River to play for Europe’s most coveted athletic prize.

Amid thickening rain and an unbreakable 1-1 tie, the game came down to a penalty-kick shootout. After an unfortunate slip by the Chelsea captain John Terry sent his potential winning kick off the post, Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar blocked a shot by Nicolas Anelka, giving United the championship. A deafening chorus of English fans sent shudders through Luzhniki Stadium.

This first all-English final in Champions League history became an extension of a season-long battle in England’s Premier League, where United won the title on the season’s final day.

Luca Toni promises to walk through Munich naked…

… If Bayern win the Champions League

Luca Toni’s Bayern Munich are high on Champions League confidence after putting approximately 412 goals past Sporting in the last round, but face a huge challenge against Barcelona in the quarter-finals this month.

The World Cup winner has been decorated with many honours in his football career, but he is willing to give anything to get his hands around the European Cup, including his clothes and dignity:
“Reaching Rome is my goal. I have won so many titles in my career but this one still eludes me.

“If we bring the Champions League trophy back to Munich, I promise: I will walk naked through the Marienplatz!”

Toni believes Bayern Munich have the mettle to win the competition, thanks to the fact that they field “eleven lions”, rather than “eleven professionals”. Frankly, we can’t see the Germans getting past Barcelona or Liverpool/ Chelsea in the semis, but the proposed nudity stunt will definitely excite his legions of female fans: Italian women recently voted Toni as the footballer they would most like to see naked.

Cisse in lap-dancing bar arrest

Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman outside a lap-dancing club in Newcastle.

Police said a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of common assault in the early hours of Monday.

It is believed the alleged incident happened outside the Diamonds club in Grey Street. The Premier League star was later released on police bail.

A spokesman for Sunderland refused to comment on the matter.

The striker, who is on loan at Sunderland from French club Marseille, used to play for Liverpool.

He is married with two children.

[request for info!]

A friend of mine on my flist has finally fallen to the ways of footy! She's going to France in the summer and is looking to support a team in Ligue 1 once she gets over there.

I'm not well versed in Ligue 1, obvs. Can someone help me point her in the right direction? I don't want one of my first footy conversions to fall flat on its face.

Thank you dearies! *blows kisses*

Poland 10-0 San Marino: Four for Smolarek

Ebi Smolarek hit four goals to inspire Poland to a 10-0 drubbing of San Marino in a one-sided World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.

Poland, beaten 3-2 in Northern Ireland on Saturday, cruised into a 4-0 halftime lead against Group Three bottom team San Marino thanks to two goals from Rafal Boguski, one by Smolarek and another from Robert Lewandowski.

The visiting defence was penetrated six more times in the second period through Smolarek (three), Ireneusz Jelen, Mariusz Lewandowski and Marek Saganowski.

"I am happy about the four goals. It shows I want to be an important part of the team," said Smolarek.

Poland have 10 points from six games while San Marino have lost all their matches. Northern Ireland top the table on 13 points ahead of Slovakia on 12.

"The group is even and the race will go until the very end," said Poland coach Leo Beenhakker.

"Even the favourites, Czech Republic, clearly have problems winning games," added the Dutchman.

The Czechs, beaten 2-1 at home by the Slovaks on Wednesday, have eight points.

where dreams come true

So apparently it's The Year of Mickey, starting from this month.

Therefore some celebrities designed their own Mickey ears in honour of this historical occasion.
