Darren Bent now injured too!

has been left with just two fit strikers after Darren Bent limped out of training this morning. The Tottenham striker hobbled off with a leg injury and remains a doubt for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.

Bent had a brief discussion with Capello at the London Colney training pitch in which he was seen to be looking down constantly at his leg. Shortly afterwards he limped back to be seen by the England physios.

After Emile Heskey's injury against Slovakia, Carlton Cole's withdrawal and Capello's refusal to call up Michael Owen, he has been left with just Wayne Rooney and Peter Crouch, who is back in training after shaking off a dead leg, to lead the line.

However, Capello will welcome the news that Rio Ferdinand has been passed as fit to train this morning and the defender should be available for selection on Wednesday.

Ferdinand had been suffering from a back problem and was replaced by Matthew Upson in the friendly against Slovakia on the morning of the game. Shaun Wright-Phillips, who also missed Saturday's game, returned to training too and will provide Capello with further options on the flanks.

I'm finding the situation increasingly precarious, but at least it leaves space for the Crouch/Rooney partnership to blossom.

Del Bosque Admits He Could Rest David Villa For Spain’s Test In Turkey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Seleccion coach has given a strong hint that ‘El Guaje’ could be dropped from the starting XI this Wednesday…

Del Bosque, en rueda de prensa.

After grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 win over Turkey at the weekend in Madrid in the Worldcup qualifiers, Spain are expected to make numerous changes for the second meeting this Wednesday in Istanbul.

Coach Vicente del bosque hinted throughout Monday’s training session  that several modifications would be made to the starting XI and one of them will be to drop Valencia striker David Villa

“Villa’s place [in the team] is still undecided. He is a lad who guarantees goals but the other day, we had doubts about his fitness,” he said in an interview with Radio Marca programme ‘La Futboleria’.

“He is an important player for us, but we do not want to harm Valencia either. We are not dissatisfied with anybody, but we must have a fresh team for Wednesday.”

The Salamanca-born trainer then gave an in-depth analysis of the 1-0 win over the Turks last Saturday.

“We were up against a very complicated rival in the first half. In the second, we were better. But defensively speaking, we did not have too many problems other than the first two attacks they had,” he admitted.

“They held us well in midfield. We were playing too many short passes and that made it easier for them to pressure us. They closed us down with players like Nihat and Semih Senturk, players who can virtually play as midfielders. They pressed us and we were unable to solve the problem.

“But when you’re on the bench and you see that things are not working out, the important thing is not to disrupt the team. It is necessary to make changes, but you can’t turn the team inside out.”

Finally, Del Bosque was asked to comment on his realationship with former La Seleccion coach Luis Aragones, who had said yesterday that there are no problems between the pair.

“Luis has said that and the truth is, he is right. I do not have anything against him and I would hope that he has nothing against me, too,” he said.

Spain have a 100 per cent record in the World Cup qualifiers after five rounds as they lead Group 5 with a six-point advantage over second place Bosnia-Herzegovina, but Del Bosque and his charges are expected to face their toughest test yet against Turkey at the Ali Sami Yen Stadi.

sapient_pear just posted all of them, thanks!

I just realized that sometimes, I think Xabi is starting to look like Stevie (the hair, the facial hair - but Stevie's isn't ginger). And now Nagore is dressing like Alex, with the tights and the shorts...lol they're turning into Stevie and Alex! The next thing Jon will be a little blond girl. And Xabi gets arrested because of Julio Iglesias. ;)

Ricky Praises Gerrard

I think it's time for Kaka' to work his way into this community
I'll start with a little article

Here's what Ricky said :

Milan Star Kaka Hails Liverpool Icon Steven Gerrard

The Milan playmaker thinks the England midfielder is "the complete player"...

CL: Steven Gerrard, Liverpool v Real Madrid (PA)

AC Milan and Brazil star Kaka has stated that he feels Liverpool forward Steven Gerrard is one of the world's finest players, hailing the England man as possessing all the attributes of the modern footballer.
Such versatility and 'football intelligence' is another factor in former Real Madrid and France legend Zinedine Zidane recently opining that Gerrard was perhaps now the finest player in the world.

That opinion was shared to an extent by Kaka, when he was questioned by British football magazine Four-Four-Two recently as to who he thought was the best player in the world.

"That’s a difficult question," he replied. "If I had to choose three, I would pick Cristiano Ronaldo, because of his skill and speed; Messi, because of his flair and skills; and Steven Gerrard, who for me is the complete modern player."

Petr for Barca?

Chelsea keeper Petr Cech could

be Valdes replacement.

According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo Barcelona are considering making a move for Petr Cech. Barcelona are very keen on the Czech keeper having tried to pursue him previously in the 2007 season. At the time Cech was happy to be playing in England and was eager to bring titles to Chelsea. Even back then though Cech was open to the chance of one day playing for Barcelona with his agent saying, “Petr is absolutely happy at Chelsea, but if he was to change clubs in the future, then three or four of the most famous clubs would come into account. And Barcelona are among them.”

Chelsea have not been able to recapture the form they had under José Mourinho when they won the Premiership title back in 2007. Currently they are in third place, three point behind Manchester United. Growing frustration over their inability to win either Europe or the Premiership, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich might be willing to take the cash for his 26 year old keeper.

With current Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes still unable to secure a contract with the team there are rumblings that he is for the off. Valdes has been with the team since 1995 as a youth, finally breaking into the senior club in 2002. But with his inconsistent play over the past two years questions have been raised regarding his ability in big matches.
