TORRES A DOUBT FOR BORO CLASH

Fernando Torres is a doubt for this weekend's clash in Middlesbrough after twisting his ankle in the 1-0 victory over Real Madrid.
The striker was substituted after 61 minutes of the Bernabeu triumph and now faces a race against time to be ready for Liverpool's trip to the north east on Saturday.

Rafa Benitez said: "Talking with the doctors, they said maybe we could keep Torres on. The ankle was bad but it maybe wasn't the worst injury. But he was limping and wasn't comfortable and we decided to bring Ryan Babel on.

"We don't know how bad it is yet. Probably he will miss some games. We have a game in three days' time and it will be difficult for him to be ready."

Meanwhile, Benitez explained his decision not to use Steven Gerrard from the start in the Champions League second round.

He said: "Clearly Stevie needed to do a special warm-up in the dressing room with the physios.

"Afterwards he was doing the normal warm-up with the other players. He needed to do something special beforehand but still he was not fully fit.

"We knew it could be a problem so, after talking with the doctor and the player, it was decided he could play maybe a few minutes at the end."

Pavlyuchenko Calls Berbatov An 'Arrogant Snob'

Outspoken 27-year-old Roman Pavlyuchenko has already criticised the lack of good Russian cuisine in England, as well as having a pop at the looks of the nation's multi-ethnic women. (omg can someone explain this part to me?) nevermind, found it.

The former Spartak Moscow striker's latest diatribe includes a criticism of Tottenham Hotspur's former striker Dimitar Berbatov as, he feels, the Bulgarian is an "arrogant snob", as well as claiming that to play for Manchester United is what dreams are made of.

Last summer's £13.8 million acquisition is quoted by The Daily Mail as saying, "It would be wrong not to dream about this [playing for Manchester United].

"I have realised that the English Premier League is exactly why you should start playing football in the first place," he said, "and Manchester United is the leader of it. Once your first dream comes true you must start dreaming of another target."

The news is sure to rock Spurs' dressing room, especially as the timing could not be worse as the north London club take on their Mancunian rivals at Wembley on Sunday in the League Cup final.

He expressed some admiration for Irishman Robbie Keane, whilst his words for Dimitar Berbatov were not as glowing.

"Robbie Keane returned to the Spurs as if he never left the club. It's evident that he's a man of authority inside the team which is good for us. He was always liked as far as I can judge," he continued.

"If Berbatov returned it would be taken quite differently.

"I heard tales that he was an arrogant snob who after a training session would just throw his dirty boots to the man who takes care of our footwear saying: 'Clean them for me!'

"No one likes such people. Still he's now playing for Manchester United." Collapse )

Raul to the MLS?

Real Madrid living legend Raúl González has announced that he’ll probably retire at the end of the 2010/2011 season (which means he’ll finish this season then play two more).

He’s already the Real’s all-time top scorer, and will definitely be adding a few more goals to that tally before he’s done.

After that, he plans to give MLS a go. But not for the football, apparently.

“As an experience, not just for me but also for my family, I could try to play a year probably in the United States,” he said. “If I did it, it would be for the experience. If not, it’s clear that I will finish my career here (at Real).”
